The Empire is a boutique style, independently owned and managed hotel in the centre of town. It has been run by the same family, and many of the same staff, for over 75 years - now in 3rd generation. The hotel has 64 rooms over 2 buildings, 8 in a townhouse directly next door (no lift). The main building has a bar / lounge areas, indoor pool and gym, and outdoor terrace with pool. Air conditioning is in all bedrooms and public areas and wifi is available throughout. There are 5 car parking areas with 56 spaces.
Services
Our story at the Empire began when Edith and Harold Maddocks came to Llandudno from Birmingham in 1946. The MADDOCKS family have been here ever since and it is now in its third generation and hoping to pass onto a fourth. It began life in 1854 as the towns first block of shops and hence the name of the Watkin's Restaurant as that was the location of the Italian wine merchant.
Our newest, most popular rooms, opening out from French doors onto room's own small patio overlooking outdoor roof terrace and pool. Bathrooms have bath and walk-in shower. King bed and double sofa bed are available in these rooms. Accessed by the rear lift and located at the rear of the hotel. The Superior Plus Queen Pool View room offers a relaxing stay with comfortable furnishings and sumptious bedding.
Situated in our quiet and comfortable adjoining townhouse our Superior 72 rooms offer extra space with open plan living room and bedroom, each room is individual in design with unique decor and furnishings. Almost all have King size beds, marble bathrooms with overhead shower, widescreen TV and DVD player.
We have a few family rooms available with queen size double bed and double or single sofa beds. Some rooms have two queen size beds. The family rooms offer the same comfortable and luxurious decor with extra space and beds for children. Why not bring your children to our indoor pool in the spa or our outdoor splash pool on our terrace in the summer months.

The location and decor can't be beat. The service is fantastic. The rooms are what you'd expect in NYC (a little the smaller size) but well maintained. Only compliant is that the beds were smaller and the mattress was not comfortable. However the location more than makes up for that.

Five star service, two star rooms, one star superfluous charges. This hotel was cheaper than most, largely because the gym and spa were closed, or that's the best I could tell was the reason. But the hotel needs an update if it's going to really claim four stars. The concierge was hilarious, kind, and helpful, but I was charged an additional $40 with no explanation or receipt and have tried repeatedly to get in touch with the hotel to explain this charge.

It is difficult to justify giving this hotel 3 stars instead of 2, however the location and free bottled water are the only reasons I have given 3 stars. The location is great for Central Park and close to subway stations. The lobby looks amazing and well looked after, the same cannot be said for the rooms. The wardrobe door was hanging off, with the two on the hinges missing.

The rest of the furniture is worn and damaged and needs urgently replacing. The rooms are generally quiet however the doors slam very loudly and this can be heard all down the hallway. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The Hotel Empire sign above the hotel is only half working and the pool area is in need of some TLC. There was broken glass around the pool area, which a member of staff kicked to one side rather than picking it up. Overall, for a hotel in New York which promised to be 4 stars, the empire hotel fell far short of 4 stars.

We only spent a small amount in the hotel as we were out exploring every day so the poor condition of the room was manageable. For the price we payed there are other hotels which are far better.

I really liked my experience at the rooftop last week at an event I attended. The sunset views from the rooftop are epic. Go just before sunset you will love it. The bar menu was limited. I hope they will improve that part. Good views should be complimented with good food and good drinks

Friendly staff. Decent rooms especially for the price. Love the rooftop bar and the pool is small but refreshing. The rooms are a little outdated but I really can't complain for the price. A great location for tourists too with Central Park right around the corner.

The location is a block away from central park and near subways to get you around the city. The rooms were clean and comfortable and we got a great view of the city and Lincoln Center. There were some issues with the elevators while we were there but we weren't held up for too long. We were just sad that we couldn't use the fitness center due to the unusually hot weather that caused them to close it temporarily. Their rooftop is also incredible! Super friendly and efficient staff too!

Fantastic hotel. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Set in a great location. The room we had was very clean and maid service every day. The only downside was it could do with a little TLC. Furnishing/decor starting to look a bit tired. Would recommend this hotel. Many thanks for a fantastic stay.

If you've ever been to NYC you know that you're not spending much time in your room. That being said the room was your average NYC hotel room and it always clean. My only disappointment was that the bathroom was EXTRA small and the constant smell of weed (not sure if it was in another room or from outside). The location was awesome, a cab was in reach at all times, food, coffee, pharmacy all easily accessible in the area. Central Park is also at walking distance (really close to the carousel).

Great hotel near Columbus Circle. It's close to central park. It's proximity and location is great. The room and amenities are good. The rooms are small. The restroom situation in our room was annoying. There's a lip that I kept tripping on to get into the bathroom. Other than that it was fine.

We loved the complimentary water bottles, we went for them at the reception. Downsides: The swimming pool is closed. Gym is closed. No restaurant for breakfast in the hotel. The rooftop closes at 11pm, except Fridays & Saturdays when it closes at 1am (staff confused the closing times, so we couldn't enjoy the rooftop). The rooms are very old, but clean.

You can hear the noise from the hallway and the elevators, very thin walls in the room. The room cleaning service is nice, reception as well :). Thank you, overall, for the experience. The staff was nice, but we would never go back to this hotel - we chose it and paid this money due to the facilities and they were all closed. Big disappointment.

An interesting and comfortable hotel. A rabbit warren of corridors and steps, but with cosy rooms. Some rather bizarre touches, like the decanters of British sherry in the rooms, but good quality tea and coffee is available instead! Rooms can be very hot; I think the clientele is mainly pensioners. Breakfast of good quality ingredients. I haven't dined. Parking very limited.
