Dunvalanree, a small non-smoking hotel in Carradale on the Mull of Kintyre, is an ideal centre to explore places like Gigha, Machrihanish and Campbeltown, following in the footsteps of kings and saints and Viking warriors as well as further afield the coasts and islands of Argyll. Dunvalanree is a founding member of the SeaFood Trail as featured on TV. After dinner enjoy a Springbank whisky and fall asleep to the sound of the sea.

Paradise at the end of the "Long and Winding Road". We did a tour of Scotland over two weeks and followed the Seafood Trail which led us to Dunvallanree. The setting of the hotel is stunning even although it was raining cats and dogs when we arrived!. It sits right at the end of the road overlooking the bay with its white sands and turquoise water.
Picture perfect the garden was in full bloom with many tropical looking flowers and plants, a very welcoming sight!. This small family run hotel is a perfect get away from it all, the visitors book in the lounge goes back to the 1940,s and I didnt find one dissapointed review. The rooms were immaculate, the beds were the comfiest we ever slept in, and the feather pillows and duvet were pure luxury, not to mention the daily homemade shortbread which was just another piece of heaven added to our stay.
The food was what drew us to this hotel, although our journey was rather long as it took us five hours to get there, its at the end of that long and winding road that Paul Mcartney sung about. We spent two nights there, four adults and three children and were excited about the great food we were going to taste whilst there. We were not dissapointed, Alyson and Alan were amazing hosts and the food was the best we ever tasted, beautifully presented and cooked to perfection, the portions were plentiful and so good that we couldnt bear to leave anything on our plates and greed got the better of us.
The eggs laid by the hens out the back were the brightest orange yolks you ever saw, freshly juiced oranges and a breakfast fit for a king with a helping that will keep you going all day long till dinner! Most delicious breakfast we ever ate, I brought my American husband to Scotland for the first time and am so glad we chose Dunvallanree, the food was of the utmost importance as I wanted him to truly experience Scottish food at its finest and Alyson totally delivered and then some!.We had the hotel to ourselves and the beach and bay, Dunvallanree is indeed a hidden gem, I cant rave enough about this place and I have been pining to get back there as soon as we left! I cannot praise this wee place highly enough, the only dissapointment we had was only booking a two night stay! Next time itll be longer!

If you like good and interesting food, a warm welcome, comfy bed and spotless clean rooms; this is the place. My wife and I loved this place. We had dinner bed and breakfast. I cannot remember enjoying meals more in a Hotel. The owners specialise in local ingredients, they know and love the area they live in and it shows. Some of the 'simple' things that that Alyson cooks eg shortbread & potato scones are the best I have ever tasted anywhere.
We had scallops, mussels, lamb and seafood skewers for dinner. My wife is coeliac (we had said before we arrived) and it was all taken care of; no ordinary bread on the plate etc. That level of attention to detail is fantastic. Alan was front of house, friendly and attentive. We paid 157 for two of us, one night dinner bed and breakfast. It was a bargain and we will be back. The wine list was small but excellent, very reasonable prices. Its about 25 minutes from the ferries terminals on Kintyre. Do visit.
