Donnington Valley Hotel

Afternoon tea for 5 people Saturday 21st May. My sister in law arranged an afternoon tea at Donnington Valley Hotel for me, my mum and my two nieces. As soon as we arrived, the service was extremely attentive and super friendly. Any additional requests we made were attended to within minutes and the food on offer (sandwiches, scones & cakes) was very nice. As my little niece wanted a tuna sandwich, the manager arranged this straight away with no extra charge. Looking forward to visiting again very soon!

Absolutely amazing hotel and spa establishment. I 100% recommend this place to everyone. It is outstanding in service, facilities and quality. Cannot praise this hotel enough. Staff were ever so lovely, helpful and attentive with us.

Pricey but very nice with great facilities, set in a beautiful setting. At times it did feel a bit under staffed, eg in the bar in the evenings and once or twice in reception. Those staff we did come across were very pleasant and helpful. Little maps of the area in reception would be nice, which would have made it easier for instance on our walk to the nearby castle ruin. Acoustics in the bar were not great which made it very loud in the evenings.

Good bathrooms well presented and clean. One scatter cushion on our bed had old make up stains on. Breakfast was good with plenty of choices though it did get rather crowded at times. For such a large hotel the evening/lunch menu was a bit limited, particularly if you were staying for more than one day.

Attended our son and daughter in law's wedding yesterday and it was totally amazing! The hotel is gorgeous and the staff attentive without being intrusive! They could not to enough for us all. Special mention to Sharon, our wonderful room attendant who went out if her way to sort out the bed for our grandson and supplied him with a fantastic goodie bag! It made his stay! Thank you all!

Attended overnight spa with friends. From the moment we entered the building to checkout, the service was second to none. Spa services ranged from a pool, sauna, steam rooms and jacuzzi. Spa treatments were personal to the individual and care taken. Restaurant service and food was exceptional, staff couldn't do enough for you. Highly recommended.

Seems expensive for the level of service, cleanliness and quality of the food offering. Rooms are a good size but decor is dated and the bar area felt like a weatherspoons from the early 00s. On a positive note the gym and spa facilities are very good.

Spa is a definite 5*, hotel side was nice and staff very friendly and professional. Only reason I'm giving 4* is because the milk in my room fridge had gone off, I might be nit picking. Overall stay was great and treatment in spa was superb.

Beautiful location and great spa. I just wanted to feedback to the kitchen, they do not have very many veggie options (I think one main!) and they didn't have any vegan options. This is quite disappointing! So many people (including myself) are veggie, and I also like to eat Vegan - it really bugs me when that is an afterthought at a restaurant. Thank you.

From start to finish our stay was excellent. We had booked a midweek break with cream tea and evening meal. It was already good value but instead of a cream the we mere given afternoon tea. We mere them given a complimentary upgrade to an executive room. The staff at this hotel were all professional and friendly. The spa facilities were exemplary. Everything was clean and well kept. The food was amazing. We will be back

Booked the three day Christmas package, 24th - 27th. Was amazing and incredible value for money, couldn't beleive what we got for the price. Also the best customer service we've ever received in the UK! And the people in Newbury town were also amazing. Will definitley be going back!

We were so disappointed with the quality of the afternoon tea for our daughters birthday on the 23rd December. We were literally the only party of people in there and for what we paid have had much better sandwiches and cakes for the same price in London. The overall presentation in the actual restaurant area was pretty poor for Christmas time. This has put us off from even booking a meal there with the standards we saw today. Value for money very poor I'm afraid and not what we would have expected.

Great hotel, the executive rooms are very spacious! Loved the massive comfy bed! And the pillows were just right. (I suffer with a bad neck). The food was delicious and well presented. They had plenty of friendly staff on duty, and we had a nice cosy seat in front of the log fire. Only stayed one night, but would consider returning for a longer stay.

Lovely hotel. Spent time with friends; very nice room; small bottle of milk and bottles of cold water in a fridge (nice touch); staff lovely; swimming facilities excellent; food was nicely presented; plenty of parking; a lovely treat at this time of year.

This is a nice place, with a nice pool, sauna, aroma room and jacuzzi, but it has some current issues, which i have fed back to the management and are hopfully in hand. Children's swimming ends at 5pm and it does not give adequate time after school, travel etc. Needs to be 5.30 / 6pm. The food and drink is limited and it time limited. The lockers are in a bad state, and need updating.

Spent the day at the spa today with my daughter for her birthday. We had a wonderful day from start to finish. On arrival we were met by Guy at the spa reception who went through everything with us, he was very friendly and professional. I was very impressed with him and he was really helpful. We had an amazing day using the spa facilities and then headed for our treatments which were out of this world, I felt completely relaxed and rejuvenated. All finished off with a delicious afternoon tea. We will definitely be coming back again - thank you

We stayed at the Donnington Valley hotel for one night for our wedding anniversary. It was such a treat. The spa is spacious and plenty of lounge chairs with tables/chairs. We ordered a smoothie and a mint tea by the pool. Very enjoyable. The sauna, aromatherapy room and steam all worked and there was plenty of space. Only the jacuzzi wasn't working, but no bid deal. Kids are allowed in the swimming pool but only at certain times, and was respected by parents. Considering we went at half term, I was expecting it to be really busy, but it wasn't.

We had the set menu in the evening, a sharing cheese and cold meat platter, followed by chicken and beef burgers. I didn't have a pudding but my husband enjoyed his pannacota. We had an Irish coffee and a chocolate liqueur, which we enjoyed in the bar next to the restaurant. The staff are all very welcoming and friendly. The rooms were not cold, king size bed and tea/coffee facilities in the room.

Before breakfast the next morning, we had swim and a sauna. Breakfast was self service, full English, continental and some fresh fruits. Overall, we had an excellent stay and looking forward to coming back again.

Had a lovely night away to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The welcome from the reception as we checked in was warm and friendly. Our room was on the first floor. It was bigger than I expected, the bed was comfy and the added pillows were a lovely touch. The room was a perfect temperature for our stay and the little bottle of milk in the fridge for teas and coffees was just enough for us.

If I were to be ultra critical the door of the bathroom was a little bit sticky in its frame and the fridge may have been a bit noisy for some. Although it didn't bother us. The pool area was very relaxing. After a quick dip in the pool and a session in the steam room and sauna, we chilled on the loungers and ordered drinks from the health club reception team who were very happy to help and look after us.

Dinner was lovely and we chose from the set menu. The sharing platter was an appropriate, light starter and the chicken burger and beef burger we ate were well cooked and tasty. For dessert I had the panacotta which was a lovely light way to end the meal. We finished off our drinks on the upper bar area which was a calm place to end the evening. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will hope to go back again.

Good food and lovely quite room. Unfortunately spa day didn't work out as we wanted but the manager kindly offered us a spa day to make up for a it. Would definitely visit again. My partner loved the golf course. Swimming pool, steam room and hot room were fantastic. Jack in the health suite looked after us. Thank you Jack
