This historic hotel is really showing signs of its age. I believe there are almost 100 rooms and the ones we had were certainly in need of upgrades. The first we had was small but with adequate if worn facilities. Our TV was the smallest, I have ever seen in a hotel room. On the remote control the numbers and icons on the buttons had been worn off.

It's the first hotel we have been to, where there is no 'welcome pack ' of hotel and local information. Like most hotels, nowadays, they were short staffed but the staff did a wonderful job of trying to make our stay a pleasant one. However, our party didn't christen the hotel 'Fawlty Towers ' for nothing. On the second night of our stay, none of the ceiling lights would work, try as the only staff member on duty did.

He readily and happily gave us an 'upgrade' to the only room available, overlooking the sea. The room was twice the size with the same type of small TV, and a couch, which needed cleaning, in the bay window. Getting to the room was a real trek, up stairs and down stairs along narrow corridors. Bedding was reasonable quality and the beds were comfortable.

Our biggest problem when visiting was car parking which was expensive. The nearby multistorey was available for overnight parking which cost around 12 but strangely a fairly large, cheaper open air carpark near Splashpoint had a complicated charging and payment system which would not allow payment after midnight. In 'The Steyn' around the hotel there was on-street parking, for a maximum of 2 hours on a weekday and on Saturdays, the hotel had permits available which would allow parking all day.at a cost of 8. The significant cost of car parking made for an expensive stay.

Friendly staff at reception but all downhill from there. Room would have been impressive in 1965 but the world has moved on. Toilet leaked. Bathroom fan sounded like jet engine. Windows falling apart and rattled in the breeze until I used a teabag to jam them. Shelf with kettle could fall off the wall at any time if you brushed by it. A decent location and for what we wanted, arrive 9pm, depart 9am, not a complete disaster for the price. But glad to be leaving very soon, never to come back.

Great staff who couldn't have been more helpful and friendly, brilliant location near many great food places in worthing and right by the seafront. Rooms were nice but a little basic. No free wifi either. They allow dogs too and very accommodating. Will be staying again in the near future.

Lovely hotel in a great location. Lovely view onto the garden area and can even see the sea. Short walk to the sea front and very near to restaurants and bars. I stayed here to see a band at the Assembly Hall and it was perfect, just a short walk away. The room was quiet, clean and comfortable.

Location is great, right by the sea but my god, its so outdated. There's a multistory couple minutes walk away but so is a premiere Inn for nearly fifty quid cheaper so use that instead. Shower pressure was minimal, toilets tucked away in a small corner. No way to open the big window (intentionally blocked off) but no air con either so if its a hot day, you're buggared really. Keys are old fashioned with the biggest room card attached to it, no deadlocks on the room either. Beds are uncomfortable in that if you're sharing one, you better hope you like rolling into the middle of waking each other up every time you turn. Pillows are so flat, they might as well not be there.

Breakfast was 13 for a plate of disappointment, not even hash browns, no buffet other than cereal options. Its not worth the breakfast, there's so many cafes around etc you're better off getting breakfast elsewhere!

Great location. Friendly staff. Very good price and if your lucky enough you can park right outside for a small fee. Rooms a little on the small side but comfortable. Noisy extractor fan and telly too small to see from bed. Otherwise great.

As my 3 stars say "It's ok". It seems like it would have been the place to go, in its day. Unfortunately, now its rather shabby. The room was expensive and not up to par. Other hotels for the same price are much more up to date. The paint was chipped off the walls, the light sockets were not fixed to the wall, the carpet must have been torn at some point so they put a metal runner over it, in the middle of the room, which could cause you harm.

The bathroom had a distinct stinky odour not pleasant to the nostrils. The TV was the size of a laptop and they charged for Internet, this is very old fashioned. The radiator was small for the size of the room so it was always cold. Grand in its day, sorry to say not now.

Nice decor downstairs and reception were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was pleasent. Rooms a bit outdated, shower head was only good if your under 5ft 8.so as I'm 6ft 3 was a bit annoying.

Stayed for two nights in one of the rooms facing the back of the hotel. A bit of noise from the bus depot, not too bad (the wind made more noise!). The room was dated but clean and warm and cosy. Staff are friendly and very helpful! It's an older 'classic?' hotel and of course there are small things that could be improved on. The location is very good - very close to everything.

On request before booking they also said they would be happy with our two small dogs! All this and no extra charge and just a waiver to sign on arrival - perfectly fair! Parking is limited but followed the hotels advice and it was ok- parked in the high street multistorey car park. Would stay again on a short stay but possibly go for a front facing room. Hopefully hotels like this don't disappear and just improve on a few things, preferred it to the generic premier Inn etc.

Rooms small but clean. Staff very friendly. Rooms very hot, couldn't leave the windows open due to outside noise. Bed very uncomfortable. Breakfast poor. Not value for 115 a night. Premier in would have been better. Noisest shower I have ever used!
