Services
The Bowmore Hotel is the oldest hotel in Bowmore but the ground floor, dining room, lounge bar and bar, have undergone extensive renovations to bring the building back to what it was when it was built. Whinstone walls, Canadian Red pine which is a lovely backdrop for the Scottish Elm furniture installed by Scottish Designer, Paul Hodgkiss from Glasgow.
There are currently no Special Offers available but we are holding our prices for the third year running now and we do offer special rates to workforces coming to the Island, each case is dealt with on it's own merit. Contact us for more details. The Bowmore Hotel is more than just a hotel. It's a hospitality experience.
The Bowmore Hotel is well know for it's good food at great prices. Our chefs go that extra mile to provide enjoyable home-cooked meals that use only the finest quality ingredients many of which are sourced locally. Our restaurant is very busy and bookings are adviseable especially at peak times. If you are staying and want to eat in the dining room, please let us know when you check in or before you arrive. All of our meals are served by friendly staff who will do their best to cater to your specific needs.
The lounge bar is used at lunchtime for bar lunches from 12 noon until 3 p.m.ish and also at nighttime for meals from 6pm to 9pm with last orders at 8.45 (flexible in the summer for people off the late ferry). The hotel bar is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxed drink. Whether you prefer a quiet drink or to be in the thick of the social scene, you will feel at home in The Bowmore.

Not so good for larger groups. The food was unfortunately only average. The waitress was inexperienced and did nothing to improve the average food. I ordered the'leg of lamb' which was brought to the wrong table and 10 min later given to me! I did ask for another plate and got it. Which was the right thing to do. The leg of lamb was slices of lamb.
Which I did not expect. Paying in a larger group was slow at troublesome. It might be okay for smaller groups. But then again, why not take your money elsewhere? I'm not returning.

The food was abysmal. The rack of lamb was not a rack at all, it was two slices of god-knows-what showered in what could only be box wine heated u in a skillet. The bar staff were very friendly and helpful in their knowledge of whiskey and their Islay selection was extremely extensive. Go for a drink. Stay away from the food.

This review is for the bar/restaurant. We visited for lunch twice during our week in Islay and were very pleased both times. Firstly a party of five adults and then as a couple. Hidden gem of a place on Jamieson Street and someone has gone to a lot of trouble designing commissioning and building the lovely natural wood features in the rooms. A warm welcome and friendly service and a decent selection of dishes for a lunch menu, including daily specials. The local crab salad and the Thai green curry were highlights, although no poor plate was put down for us. Would thoroughly recommend.

Only drank but the passing plates looked well prepared, the whisky selection is to die for, a stunning array of drams on sale, many rare bottles and Peter is a convivial and considerate host, great craic, if I could give them 6 stars for the whisky I would, if you're a whisky novice you can say what you like and set a budget and you'll get a great selection

Don't even think about staying here. We booked months in advance and they didn't have a room for us when we arrived, despite proof of booking via email. The drunk owner then proceeded to yell at us and tell us he was doing us a favor by driving us elsewhere, which we didn't want to do as we were sharing a single car with our friends and wanted to stay with them. Ultimately, he told us to go screw ourselves and that he "didn't need our money". Perhaps the single worst interaction we had in all of Scotland. Do not support this place!

Terrible experience. They didn't have one of the two rooms we had booked well in advance. Owner was pretty unapologetic about the situation and, when my friend wasn't immediately happy with his solution to drive them to a friend's house, he kicked us out on the street and berated us for a while about how things are done on the islands and how us city people don't understand etc.
As someone whose family is from the Hebrides and has spent a lot of time there, I can tell you this is not a common occurrence. The islands are very friendly in general and so is most of Islay. Just not the Bowmore Hotel.

Would recommend this hotel to anyone. We were made to feel very welcome and all staff were friendly and helpful. Food and service excellent. The owner and his son are very hands-on with residents and customers alike. The bar is popular with locals so is always lively. We were very sorry to leave and would be happy to return again in the future.

A lovely spot for a Dram and Dinner. First suggestion, if you want to go for dinner make a reservation well in advance if you want to eat in the dining room. They will server food in the bar as well. The selection of Whiskeys is phenomenal and they actually have a 17 page, single spaced type written "bible" of their entire selection, you could take hours just looking at it.
After a dram of a delightful 23 year old Bowmore, which took them a few minutes to locate and two people to get it off one of the back shelves we went across the way to dinner. The dinner was delightful and classic UK. I stared with a chicken pate which was very tasty and followed with Venison in gravy with potatoes and vegetables. My companion had the beef in gravy with the same accompaniments.
As I said it was classic UK with the vegetables a bit over boiled, the potatoes fried and the meat very well done (read dry) but smothered in a lovely gravy. For desert we had one of the best sticky toffee puddings on the entire trip. The service was a bit spotty just do to the fact that they were very busy but all the staff were delightful.

I love the Bowmore Hotel I've only been there once, but have connections to the beautiful isle of Islay. I've met the owner, Peter, once and he is very nice. He serves you dinner sometimes, his son, Peter (also), is nice and they're very similar he can serve you too. But they do have many other staff. The dining area is very posh and rustic which gives you that traditional country vibes.
They have the hotel as well which has the same homey feelings, this is the same with the bar. All the staff are kind and friendly and if you've got any questions about the island they''ll answer. Last time I was there, (this has probably changed by now) the toilets downstairs weren't the best but when your on Islay everything is a bit behind. It's very posh and if anyone is going I'm sure you'll love it. I did.
