Hotel very nice and clean. Our room smelt of cigar smoke. Like the previous person staying in our room was a cigar smoker. Even though if you smoke in the bedrooms. They will add 100 to your bill. The smell only lasted a couple of minutes then you couldn't smell it any more as you got used to it. I have stayed here before and would have no hesation in staying again.
I was in a party of 26 people. We all had dinner. Unfortunately some of the food was not particularly nice. Anyone in our group who ordered burgers found them to be burnt. 1 person refused to pay for the burgers and was credited back her money. I had steak which was quite nice. All of us in the group who had cheesecake for dessert found the cheesecake to be Not very nice at all I left mine.as did a few others. The service was very good. And like I said I would stay again.

Lovely hotel set immediately overlooking the river where swans glide, rowers scull and everyone else enjoys the scenery. Easy to get to but the on-site car park is small and can be tough to negotiate - park on the street nearby instead. The room we stayed in was very nicely done, the breakfast room is attractive and even the adjoining toilets have quirky wallpaper! Breakfast was good and hot and they even had gluten free bread that tasted like food! Well worth staying at.

Some great things about this hotel: Beautiful Hotel in a fantastic setting Right on the river and lots of great places to eat and drink just a short walk away. Really fantastic decor and a really nice place to sit and have drinks/dinner. Staff were friendly and nice. Its a very busy place But there were a few bits that really let it down. Some of which I think really kill all the great stuff: 1.
The rooms a really hot and the aircon does nothing - I had to keep the widow open, which is not usually an issue but noise is a problem as are food smells from outside. 2. COLD SHOWERS. The rooms look lovely and you're given nice branded toiletries but to wake up to a cold shower is just awful and this was really not on. Even budget hotels can get this bit right. 3.
Really noisy - clearly a popular place but there are people shouting and running around the hotel until about 2am and its very hard to relax and sleep. I would stay here again but I really wish the cold showers can be sorted as the rest I can deal with.

Attended a wedding, didn't stay overnight. For wedding guests there was a lot of walking between the wedding room and the lounge, up and down stairs throughout the day. Reception staff directed some guests to the wrong place so missed the bride and groom's carriage ride completely. Rather strange that our table had to leave the reception room and walk down the corridor to collect our food from the other end of the reception room, then walk it back along the corridor to our table.

You won't be disappointed if you book afternoon tea here. Very good value without being wasteful. The refillable tea option was great and there were some thoughtful additions such as two different types of scone. The service was attentive but not familiar, which is exactly what I prefer when taking high tea. It looks like a lovely place to stay as well with beautiful, fresh decor and helpful staff. I think I will be back.

Clean room mostly although some black hair in the sink. Noisy room next to the lifts with sound transmitting from upstairs, neighbouring room and foot traffic in the hallway. No good vegetarian options for breakfast really, tomatoes were sour, eggs ok, baked beans and toast. No continental style options such as croissants fruit yogurt etc. Good coffee. Overall would not recommend.

Stayed over Christmas to visit family - beautiful decor & great riverside location but couldn't eat breakfast as felt too anxious - 2 out of 3 staff serving weren't in masks, (one had exemption but why was she in a front facing role?) and the room for breakfast was rammed (this was being used as main dining room set out for lunch) and no windows were open at all so just felt like a Covid Petri dish!
There was no management of numbers in the room and tables unacceptably close and I felt I couldn't stay so didn't have breakfast any day I stayed there. And to add insult to injury- we were told that staff weren't replacing towels, replenishing tea/coffee/toilet rolls in rooms as a covid precaution! It seemed the priorities of covid management were very confused!
We were going to complain about the breakfast utter lack of sensible covid Management but found staff on reception to be truculent verging on rude and definitely disinterested and unapproachable - disappointing because hotel itself was nice.

Waiting staff were neither friendly, attentive nor precise in their service. They seemed confused that we might expect our food to match the order, and exasperated that we might need cutlery to eat it with. A particular oddity was having to sign a waiver to take home some left-overs at the end of the meal before being told the so-called "discretionary" service charge was compulsory. I would recommend visiting for an insight in how not to provide customer service.

My stay at the swan was unexpectedly great. The room was lovely, the bed was comfortable, I could not fault it. Breakfast was very good, the coffee could have been better, but the reason I would stay again comes down to one of their amazing staff. Diana, who should definitely be the GM, could not do enough to help me and my friends. She was the sort of person that you hope to meet when checking in, efficient, and checking out, understanding, she literally made our stay so much better. She was absolutely brilliant. What I thought was going to be average turned into a delight. Well done the swan, you're doing great!
