Services
Ardgour is situated at the Corran Narrows on the eastern side of the Ardnamurchan Penninsula. The Corran Narrows is the part of Loch Linnhe that shrinks to approx 200 yards. Here the ferry has plied to and fro for some hundreds of years, from just a row-boat to todays modern, passenger / vehicle ferry.
WHERE WE AREThe Inn is easy to find, located at the top of the slipway to the Corran Ferry on the shore of Loch Linnhe. DIRECTIONS FROM THE SOUTHIf coming from the south, take the A82 trunk road out of Glasgow, through Dumbarton, up past Loch Lomond and through Glen Coe. Leaving Glen Coe the A82 leads up towards Fort William. 2 miles after the village of Onich, a short road to the left branches off to the Corran Ferry slipway. A few minutes ferry crossing across Loch Linnhe takes you to the door of the Ardgour Inn.

Great location via a short ferry across Loch Linne & the Corran Narrows. The Inn is not and doesn't pretend to be a luxury 5-star hotel. It has a comfortable timeless appeal that's very honest. Despite a shortage of staff, an unfortunate common sign of the times issue for the Highlands, we experienced excellent customer service. Recommend and hope to have the opportunity to visit and experience again.

What a fabulous find. The location is absolutely wonderful with the bonus of a little ferry across to it making it all the more unique. The hotel is right on Loch Linnhe with excellent views up and down the loch. There is a little lochside beach to amble along, one direction taking you to the little lighthouse just a few hundred metres from the hotel.
It was perfect for an after dinner stroll. The hotel is very homely and comfortable, and retains a lot of character - what a refreshing change from the soulless chain hotels! The room was spotlessly clean and well equipped. We had a twin room and the beds were very comfortable and warm (it was particularly chilly weather-wise whilst we were there).
The view from the window across and up the loch was exceptional. The bathroom was also spotlessly clean and had a lovely hot shower. The staff, including the owner, we're very welcoming and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. We had dinner in the hotel's restaurant and that too was fantastic - plenty of choice (including vegetarian options) with good portion sizes.
Breakfast was the same, with plenty to choose from. Our cooked breakfasts set us up beautifully for the day. I really can't recommend this place highly enough. If you want character-less, generic, chain hotel style then it may not be for you. But if you want a charming, homely, Highland stay this place is absolutely perfect and should definitely be included in your travel plans.
By the way, the ferry is the quickest way to the inn from Fort William, and runs approximately every 30 minutes between 8.30am and 9.30pm. For our car and the two of is it was just 10 to cross. There is a single-track road from just north of Fort William that takes you down the west side of Loch Linnhe to the inn. I would very much recommend taking this road if you have a car - it is stunningly beautiful with lots of places to stop and admire the scenery or spend a few minutes lochside. Not one to be missed!

Lovely inn next to the Corran Ferry. Good honest food (large portions). Owners did well to keep the restaurant running (COVID) and whilst they were busy, the atmosphere was very nice. Great views across the loch and of the ferry loading and unloading. Recommend booking a table (limited seating time - COVID) as it gets busy very quickly.

The pub at Ardgour is a great choice for when you are this side of the ferry ride. One of the few choices truthfully, but still a good one! The pub is small but homely, with the typical menu and drink choices. I had the steak and ale pot pie and a pint of Belhaven Best. The pie came with a huge puffy pastry top which looked kinda comical. The pie filling was on the salty side, but that is to be expected for this type of fare.
The food was hearty and atmosphere was warm, so it was the perfect place to spend a night. Plenty of locals dropped by with their families and friends for a drink and to chat. It is a welcoming place.

Highland Pub & Restaurant. This is a sort of an outpost set up. Right across the ferry you have this hotel, pub, restaurant, village shop, post office and more. It is possibly a great way for the locals to meet up and play some darts and share a laugh and a beer. The place's set up gives that impression. They had the Formula 1 playing on their screen in the pub.
I only used the pub section for an evening meal. Due to the remote location of the village (according to information from other sources) the food as advertised may be in short supply. As indeed I found out in my case, that there was no steak available today. I settled for the venison stew with sliced potatoes and green beans. I realise that this is not Michelin star cooking, and that the quality of a chef may be less than desired for this location, but it is still supposed to be a professional kitchen supplying tasty meals to customers.
My meal was just awful. A lack of taste can be explained as this is Rural Scotland and they may not have evolved beyond the flavour 'bland'. But the execution was well below the standard of decent cooking. The potatoes were slightly burned. The green beans were tasteless. And the stew itself was an unseasoned minced meat affair in a very bland liquid disguised as a watery gravy.
I know this as the gravy boat contained more of the same liquid. I do hope that the other diners in that restaurant had a better experience than I did. My fellow diners also complained about lack of taste and cooking skills (they had salmon, burger & fries and bangers & mash). The location and convenience is great and I just wished the chef and owners put in a little more effort to customer satisfaction. As I will be visiting the area again at some point, but rather cook my own meal or snacks. Not recommended

This review is for the pub, as visited July 2013. Enjoyed fish-n-chips in the dining room. We had excellent service and fantastic food. You might split an entree, but you'll want the entire plate for yourself. Quiet atmosphere made for easy conversation. A really great experience, and for UK, pretty reasonable prices.
