Stopped here on the our return from Salisbury. Around 4pm, Thankfully the kitchen was still serving, until other Pubs in the area. Discovered it via a review from Google maps. It is off the main road, the most beautiful location driving through the village of Moxton. Food was wholesome and tasty, ordered a fish pie and catch of the day ( cod with mussels). This was followed by a mini dessert of Sticky toffee pudding. Staff were polite and friendly. We chose to seat inside, but there was plenty of seating available outside.

The food is, for the most-part, well made, good quality and flavourful, they weak link that really let's this pub down is its absolutely atrocious service. A Sunday lunch ends up stretching well over 3 hours long, purely due to the extreme waits for food which has to be reordered and inquired on multiple times if you ever want to see it. The staff is unprofessional and very evidently uninterested in maintaining the level of quality the pub attempts to offer.
I don't want to place blame on the staff, who appeared to be lovely people in a cordial sence. But, if the management want to offer this level of quality and price level then they should seriously invest in their staff, train them and pay them well so that the level of quality expected is received.

Popped in for a light bite. Stephan, the Manager, refused to serve us a bar snack that would have taken 5 mins to prepare, despite the fact they do food from 12pm to 9pm on a Saturday. Pretty arbitrary decision making on his behalf. Didn't offer any discount on wine for being inconvenienced either. In fact, he really wasn't bothered at all. If they can't cope with a Saturday lunch service I don't hold out much hope.
The bar only had 3 tables with food and we sat there with our bag of crisps watching food come out of kitchen. The waiting staff weren't exactly rushed off their feet. Oh well. I'd recommend you phone first as the website is misleading. Such a shame I've been here many times and had good experiences but one very poor decision can change everything. White Horse @ Thruxton is just round the corner!

Really lovely place, showed up quite late for our booking (about 7PM) were met with a very warm welcome, staff very kindly laid a table for us (it was valentines weekend so they were extremely busy) and we sat down to dine on an incredibly delicious meal. All the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. After that we went back to the room, which was very clean and comfortable, not modern but very quaint and had one of the best nights sleep I've had in ages!
All in all, an excellent stay and will definitely recommend to anyone staying down here. I apologise for the lateness of the review but I seriously have nothing bad to say about The Hawk Inn.
