Discover the rich history of this magnificent Welsh Castle. From humble beginnings back in 1277 right up to the present day, many generations have passed through these halls & we would like to share our story with you. The first documented castle was created by Dafydd, brother of Prince Llewelyn ap Gruffydd, for King Edward I of England in 1277 who gave the fort (that was present on the site) to him in return for his treacherous help during the invasion of North Wales that year.Dafydd also had castles at Caergwle and Denbigh.
For 2022, minimum age 16 for spa access and treatments must be pre-booked and accompanied by an adult. Some treatments may be restricted. Throughout the hotel, there are steps leading to most facilities and where possible we have placed ramps within the parameters of the hotel's listed building status. Please note that at present, lifts within the hotel are not in operation.
Ruthin Castle is located within acres of parkland in the heart of the Medieval town of Ruthin, North Wales. Lovely big rooms & bed, soft white towels & bedding. Comfy pillows & bed, plus mark. Breakfast basic but nice. The grounds are fantastic with peacocks, rabbits, set in great location for sight seeing. Rooms could do with fresh carpet & paint. But that would then put price up. I would come back again.

What a disappointment. This place could be so amazing but it's in need of a full renovation. Dated, tatty and dirty are the only words that I can use to describe this place as a hotel. We paid over 230 for a suite, they should be charging half that for the quality of the rooms and food. Breakfast was poor, greasy cheap sausages and coffee that tastes nothing like coffee.
There was a stain on our bedding, walls had plaster peeling off, and the carpets were stained. The only positive are the beautiful grounds and peacocks, and the staff are really friendly and helpful.

Had a short break here. Very well looked after building. Room a very good size. Had an evening meal included in the deal. I had pork, cooked perfectly, would highly recommend this meal. The peacocks were very tame, grounds excellent. Had a short walk into Ruthin, very pretty little village, was very quiet on our visit. On the whole, excellent few days.

Absolutely beautiful building and lovely grounds with the ruins of the old castle and loads of peacocks! The room was nice and clean, and the bed was very comfortable. The evening meal in the restaurant was really good. The library bar was lovely for sitting with a couple of drinks. The staff were all very lovely and friendly. The only slight downside for us was that we found the breakfast too greasy for our personal taste, (but everyone else seemed to be enjoying it) and there were no vegetarian sausages. A few more teabags and toilet rolls in the room would be a good idea. Other than that we would definitely return as we loved it and would highly recommend it.

I had a nice stay because of the company I was with. However, it seems that staff shortages are making it difficult for them to provide a service they promise to offer (spa). After reading reviews it seems this has been going on for a while so I don't understand why the spa manager was acting surprised when we arrived and she said she could only offer 25 minute massage instead of 50 minutes each.
We were also offered a "mud bath" to make up for the changed massage. It was a cold shower room with seats in and a bowl of mud. This is literally not an exaggeration. It was hilarious! We just got left at the area without being told what to do or what the treatment entailed :') The hot tub was lovely and we stayed in there for a few hours with drinks.
Staff were dressed in track suits/ casual wear which was a bit odd The Spa just needs shutting until they can provide a proper service. Samantha at reception was amazing, so welcoming, she is a good face of Ruthin Castle, very welcoming. The suite was lovely, the grounds are pretty, evening meal was gorgeous but the breakfast is questionable. It wasn't worth the money we paid but I had a lovely time regardless because we laughed at the awkwardness of it all :') For a hotel stay and food it was fine. The spa was saved by the hot tub but needs a sort out.

Just returned from a weekend stay in the castle and it was lovely. The place is 800 years old and full of character, really nice and set in some lovely grounds with beautiful views and peacocks wandering around. Lockdown very nearly was the end of things for them and as such there are fewer staff than normal but despite the staff being extremely busy they were kind and helpful throughout our stay. The restaurant was excellent and the food first rate. We were really pleased and would return.

Considering they were obviously very short staffed the people working did a great job to please everyone, from reception to dining room staff. We booked with Groupon. 135 for a standard room, 2 course meal with a bottle of wine plus breakfast. The room was great with an amazing comfy bed, tea and coffee plus old fashioned bath. Dinner had a great selection, breakfast as much as you wanted.
For that price you really couldn't fault it. The interior of the castle is amazing and peacocks roam around the grounds. After dinner we really enjoyed relaxing with a drink around the open fire where we met another local couple who were really friendly. The castle is in a lot quaint old fashioned town which is worth a wander around. We will definitely go back and enjoyed dressing up and feeling lord and lady of the manor for an evening. Heartily recommend a visit!

Bit disappointed overall we had a suite plagued by ladybirds mentioned this on checkout and they said it's not the first time it been mentioned but obviously not done anything about it. Place itself bit tired definitely not worth the money cost us 546.00 2 nights dinner bed and breakfast menu same both evening's not much choice only 4 starters and 4 main meals to choose from and 4 dessert, staff were very good, spa closed which we didn't know until we got there. Not recommend unfortunately.

Had a lovely relaxing time had an evening meal at Bertie's. Poppy and Livvy were our lovely hosts and a credit to the restaurant catered for me because I'm a bit fussy with food lol. Hotel staff were friendly and again catered for your every need, went down to the Spa for a nice relaxing Hot tub too all in all a very nice stay there.

Full disclosure we did not stay here we just came here for a wander around the grounds and the inside. The staff were friendly and the grounds outside were nice with plenty of wildlife including peacocks and cheeky squirrels. The castle inside is kept quite authentic with lots of interesting architecture and things to see. Its in very slight disrepair in some places but that's unavoidable in buildings this old. If you like this kind of setting you should definitely consider staying here.

Arrived after dark at this stunning castle, which was beautifully lit. Inside is very clean, and spacious, with lots to look at. Bedroom is clean, bed huge, rooms warm, bathroom out of this world. lots of storage in bedroom/plugs/ and well lit. Beautiful views from room. Breakfast again couldn't fault it! Never used spa as stayed for a shopping trip, but already looking into coming back and using them facilities. Highly recommend

I was so excited to visit Ruthin castle. Highly disappointed! Especially by the Spa! I booked my partner in for a 50 minute massage. We arrive there to be told that they can only do 25 minutes as they are down staff members. We drove 38 minutes to have a 25 minute massage?! I was told I would get half my money back and still haven't been refunded!
I have called and called and no response. The massage was at 5pm and we are then told it will only be at 5:30pm. My partner was left waiting for 30 minutes just to get a robe to sit in the quiet room. The toilets stank of urine and the taps weren't working. I waited in the bar for him. To be told only after my drink was made that it's cash only because no one has bothered to come and fix the card machine.
I overheard another couple moaning about how terrible the service and room was. The hotel needs some serious TLC! Carpets lifting, paint coming off walls and bad customer service. I am yet to get my money back as promised and it's not acceptable. They took my money really quickly online but not quick to refund me for a service not delivered. Don't waste your money or time here.

Beautiful suite. Very clean and tidy plenty of storage space, comfortable bed and a beautiful bathroom. The evening meal was delicious and a very good choice of breakfast from the buffet. Set in beautiful grounds, well worth a visit and a wander around the village. The staff were very courteous and helpful, especially the house keeper who kindly helped with our luggage. Exceptional for weddings, parties, and long weekends.

My husband and I got married here two months ago and we had the best day! The venue is stunning, the grounds breathtaking and the staff went above and beyond to make the day so special for us. There were some staff shortage but if we hadn't have been aware we would have no idea as this did not impact us in the slightest or our guests. The staff made us and our guests feel so welcome and there was a lovley welcoming and calm atmosphere.
After the wedding we stayed up until the early hours with our guests and we weren't rushed throughout the day. They made the whole day run smooth and couldn't do enough. The staff along with the beautiful venue made our day incredible. We can not thank the staff enough for all their hard work. Guests complimented the food and it truly was amazing from presentation, to taste to service. I would highly recommend this venue for a visit or occasion and we can not wait to return. Massive thank you to all the staff.

Our trip to Ruthin Castle was nothing short of fantastic. The grounds are absolutely stunning and only a stone's throw away from Ruthin town, so there's plenty to explore before you retreat back to the comfort of your room. We dined in the hotel's restaurant every night and the food never failed to impress and our room exceeded our expectations. A beautiful place - would definitely recommend for a short getaway.

I stayed for one night on a work trip. The room was really nice and large. My room was in the old part of the hotel. There is a spa but I didn't have time to use it. I had dinner in the restaurant which was really nice served a lovely three course meal. Breakfast was self-service with all local bacon and socages.
