The packhorse was built in the medieval times as a resting place for the packhorse trains that carried goods between the farmers and miners on dartmoor and the trading towns closer to the coast. Today Linda, Ken, Claire, Patrick invite you to escape the hurly-burley of modern day life and the intrusion of television, loud music and fruit machines, and enjoy old world charm, real food, drink and good company.

Old creepy looking pub, with an atmosphere I can only liken to some sort of horror movie with weird vibes. Table, sticky with either dried on beer or food improperly wiped stuck to and stained my sleeves. The service was mediocre and the food was cold and half cooked and certainly nothing impressive to write home about. Stay away if I was you, if I could give no stars I would have.

Eaten and socialised in here a few times during a short break, wonderful atmosphere and really great food which was excellent value for money. We will definitely be back when we visit the area again soon. The team were happy to help and it's refreshing to see a local pub thriving, I'd definitely recommend a visit!

We were staying near South Brent for a week, and this was the local pub. We were very impressed with the pub - the staff are friendly and there is a good selection of drinks. It is a real local - no fake gastro pub or a chain pub. The food was very tasty and a good price. I would recommend this pub to anybody visiting the area.
