Castle House is a Grade II listed Georgian villa - once two townhouses - that has a commanding position at the top of Castle Street, with elegant, balconied architecture. The hotel sits beside what remains of the old Hereford castle moat, now just a reminder of Hereford's once strategic importance.
Hereford Castle was important in the 12th and 13th century but once the Edwardian conquest of Wales took place between 1272 and 1284, it lost its importance and fell into ruin. After the Civil War in the 17th century, the castle was demolished completely and the area landscaped for use by local people.

Rooms v comfortable and generally pleasant experience staying. Two downsides - not offering evening meals on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays (although varied selection of good restaurants in vicinity ) and limited dedicated parking (although that did not prove a problem for us in practice). Breakfasts good and imaginative. Decanter of sherry in room was a nice touch and fridge in room with milk was appreciated. Very quiet but City centre location with Castle Park almost adjacent.

We booked the hotel as a nice treat when we visited for a friend's wedding. The location is great for exploring the centre of Hereford. Staff were very friendly and they were happy to book us a taxi to and from the wedding venue. We had drinks on the terrace by the water and that was lovely as well. All this said, the room we had was away from the main hotel and was pretty small for the money.
Not much room for anything other than a bed. And we were woken at 8.00 on Sunday morning by water cascading through the vent in the bathroom. This was not the time we wanted to get up after a late night, or the way we'd want to be woken up! We fully accept that these things can happen, and the lady on reception apologised and got the water mopped up in time for us to eat breakfast and go back and pack. But, considering what had happened, we'd hoped that we might have been contacted and offered some level of compensation.
It did take the shine off the stay and we've not had any contact since. We waited a week to post this so as to give ample opportunity, but nothing from the owners. A shame, but we wouldn't stay again based on this experience and the lack of follow up.

When we booked this hotel it was with the intention to book our wedding reception, after booking In we tried to book a meal to try the food and were told we should of booked 24hours in advance, we weren't informed about this by email etc even though we was only staying one night.for the price the room was shoddy, the bathroom was really poorly finished, and not cleaned to the standard we would expect for the price

We came for Sunday lunch a week ago. Nice new area for eating Beautiful roast and very pleasant ambience I didn't give 5 star because I think the waiting staff were not great We had a very inexperienced young man.very pleasant but needs much better training My husband hadn't even sat down at the table when the menu was given to him.it's a small thing but much tweaking needs to happen at the Castle House Hotel!

The Castle House is a lovely place to stay while in Hereford. The rooms are luxurious and beautifully kept. You are greeted in you suite with a basket of local treats and a carafe of port. Everyone is very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast is delicious. Fun fact about the place is that the duck pond is part of the old castle moat. I would recommend The Castle House to anyone that would like to stay in beautiful accommodations at the heart of Hereford.

Probably the best hotel my wife and I have ever stayed in. Fabulous room, elegant and very comfortable. The staff were superb, friendly, helpful and efficient. Our son and his wife and 2 week old baby visited us in the hotel, there was no problem with them using the hotel car park, and all of us sitting around in the coffee shop. Hereford is a lovely City, the hotel's location is perfect, close to the Cathedral and City centre but in a quiet location, hence no need to use the car. We would recommend this hotel without hesitation and would be very happy to stay there in the future.
