Recently held, yet another, event at Westlodge. This time we were celebrating my mum's big birthday. We had a lovely afternoon in the beautiful garden and then an extremely tasty three course meal (for 17) all cooked by Julie. The two young lady servers were extremely polite and the service from everybody was second to none. Breakfast, the following morning, was as always excellent.
If you are wanting a small venue for a family/friends event then you can not go wrong with Westlodge Hotel. Julie and Mike always go out of their way to accommodate your every need. Can't wait to visit again soon.

We booked this beautiful venue for our wedding in August 2021. It was the first place we had looked at, and didn't need to look any further. The setting looked perfect for our needs. Julie and Mike advised and supported us throughout the procedure and were very flexible in any suggestions for our big day. We were able to hold our ceremony in the lovely garden and all of our guests were thrilled with both the venue and the attention received by the staff. Nothing was too much trouble. I would have no hesitation in recommending West Lodge Hotel for a special event.

We wanted a place for our Mum's Wake. Julie was absolutely wonderful when we went view the venue. She made us feel so welcome and took a lot of pressure from us. On the actual day. The food was amazing as were the staff. Nothing was too much trouble. We were waited on hand and foot. All our guests commented on this. It was fantastic. A brilliant find. Highly recommended and very reasonable. Thank you so much!

Unfortunately, the PR for the venue is a little misleading - at best. I didn't mind, so much, being accommodated in a refurbished shed at the bottom of their garden, it was pleasant and although mosquitos were a bit of a challenge (it was very warm, next to a pond, and the door had been left open) but I was surprised that the 'hotel' didn't do food other than breakfast.
Although the gentleman owner advised me to just go to the pub, notwithstanding covid, I preferred not to walk through an unknown town at night, to find a meal. The room and hotel are quirky, rather old fashioned and not what I had expected from the website. The PR states, one function per day, and I'm not surprised as given the function room is the breakfast room, the conservatory and also the walkway/access to the accommodation in the garden, there really is only room for one function per day.
The 'car park' was challenging, although there was on-road parking available and room for 4 cars at the front of the hotel. Facilities for a meeting or training; on speaking with the owner on arrival, and given the choice of this or, well, this, one had to simply get on with it; hence me saying it wasn't a problem and I could make something work. What I hadn't expected was the provision of meeting facilities to be a screen but no projector (and I hear what they say that presenters that go to them bring their own, but having more than 3 decades of experience delivering, it is extremely rare to have to take your own and certainly not without being told so when booking). Nevertheless, I took the decision to run with just my laptop and set the room up to facilitate that.
The owners should not have read into my positivity as acceptance of the standard they provided, more a robust resilience that I would do all I could to make the training day happen. Thankfully we were not interrupted, the post-it notes on the doors telling the other guests that it was a private function did work, albeit a rather Blue Peter solution.
I did feel for the elderly gentleman guest though, who had to navigate the uneven garden with his oxygen tank rather than be able to walk through the hotel to the front door (which would have brought him right through the middle of our training). Lunch was pleasant, but in fairness, the fact that breakfast had finished at 9 and the final guest leaving the room at 910am did leave us sat in a strong food-smell environment all day.
It also created some urgency to get the room turned round. The owners were extremely helpful with this, unfortunately their power to remove the rather strong smell of smoked bacon (that stayed with us for the day) was less effective. The owners are lovely people, trying their best, but it was a rather unique experience that I wouldn't wish to repeat; the credibility of company-provided executive training hung in the balance as we sat, in a conservatory with a strong stench of cooked food, delivering a workshop on advanced presentation and facilitation skills; the irony was not lost on me.
