A lovely place to stay in the middle of Cambridge. My partner arranged the stay, so I can't comment on value for money - but the room was a good size and very clean and comfortable. We had a cocktail and food in the bar. The breakfast was very good and there was plenty of choice to get you through a day of exploring Cambridge and the surrounding countryside. The hotel is dog friendly (with a surcharge) and there were a few treats in the room - but don't forget your dog's bowl!

I was treating my mum to an afternoon tea for her Birthday. Nice setting ruined by terrible service and limited selection. I never normally leave bad reviews but this warranted one. On arrival the staff didn't know where we were sitting and didn't greet us we had to just find our way to the garden. When we got to the garden we still weren't welcomed everyone just looked at us as if we'd walked into their living room.
We were given three tiny, stale finger sandwiches each and no sausage rolls as per the menu online. We were given some nice scones and desserts but only one jam to share between three people. The waitress didn't know if they had cider/ anything about the drinks menu either. Then she brought out the wrong drink to me and and still tried to charge me on the bill at the end for it!
Over priced for what it is and mainly teenagers with Saturday jobs who haven't got a scooby about service or hospitality. A real shame as we had high expectations. The lady next to us also sent her food back and the common theme was "sorry I'll ask my manager". No real empathy/care or understanding for their clientele, really shoddy. Definitely won't be going back.

Stayed over the bank holiday and used the restaurant on two evenings. First fine dining evening was exceptional (top quality) and I would highly recommend. The second night was not so good and obviously prepared by lower skilled staff. Breakfast is also not good and is overcooked, the bacon was obviously cooked much earlier than needed. Given the price, the food is in need of some improvement. Overall though, the hotel is super and the staff are attentive.

Stayed in a supreme double/ twin room on a Saturday night. Room was spacious with most amenities, but finish of the furnishings and bathroom felt a little budget. Twin room beds are very narrow. Breakfast comes with the room, but not really anything special and full English was quite over cooked. Staff very friendly and good location for exploring Cambridge.

In December 2021, my partner and I spent two nights there celebrating my retirement and birthday. The room was well furnished, comfortable, quiet and warm. We ate an evening meal in the restaurant. The food was cooked to perfection. The staff were very friendly. The hotel is located well within walking distance of the town centre. Would highly recommend staying there and would have no hesitation re booking.

I've not stayed here, however I've dined here a fair few times. Although the hotel is beautiful and well-placed in terms of location, the food has always been a bit bland and disappointing up until recently. Since having launched their dining on the lawn earlier this year I've become a more frequent visitor as it's such a beautiful spot for a birthday celebration, or just somewhere a little different and unique in terms of decor.
I also appreciate that all of the doors are automatic and touch-free. They introduced their hot stone dining just before Christmas and I'm a big fan! The only thing that I'd like to see if more vegan and veggie options for the hot stone dining as the tofu is a bit ordinary. Other than this the service has really improved and the food has too! See you again soon and thank you for hosting us for my sisters surprise birthday lunch earlier this month, everybody loved the space! See you again soon.

Very hard to fault anything on my recent one night stay. On arrival, receptionist was efficient and helpful and very vigilant of covid procedures. The room was very comfortable (see photos) and the walk in shower was fantastic. Tables in the bar and restaurant were generally well spaced out and.the serving staff, polite and quick. My only gripe in the evening would be with bar staff not always wearing their masks properly.
Breakfast was excellent with a huge selection of cold and hot options, as well as juices and fruit. Usual challenge with the 'toaster' but isn't the case in every hotel? Nice location with outside space which I imagine is very pleasant in the summer. Parking is rather limited but there is a multi-storey a few paces down the road (14 for overnight). Strongly recommend and easy distance from Cambridge shops. Make sure you visit Heffers Bookshop while in town.

We went for dinner here in the outside tent and I have never experienced a) such bad service and attitude from waiters or b) such bad food. We were served chips and salad along with very thin slices of meat we had to cook ourselves, needless to say the hot food was cold by the time the meat was cooked. The meat was plain with no flavour, I may as well have stayed home and cooked my own dinner rather than being charged to do it for myself in a restaurant.
The waiters rolled their eyes when we asked if we could order drinks and then again when we asked if they could clear the glasses and bottles that had collected throughout the meal and they hadn't cleared yet. Don't go here if you want to go out for a nice cooked meal, you could do better at home!

Lovely hotel with excellent customer service. Great breakfast, special hot meal made for us as vegans, also oat milk both at breakfast and in our room for hot drinks! Can't fault the room and enjoyed a good spa treatment. Ideally situated to see Cambridge and close to the railway station. Can highly recommend.

Wonderful staff, very professional and super-attentive. Beautiful decor throughout and spotlessly clean everywhere. We had morning coffee in the bar area, and later a very tasty and well-priced lunch on the lawn. Enjoyed a superb massage from Jess at Gresham House, the spa attached to The Gonville. My friend and I spent the entire day at this hotel, such was the welcome, ambience and service. Would definitely recommend.

Great hotel in a great location. Overall very pleased with the hotel, location, food, and service. Didn't quite make 5 stars for a few minor things. - Our room was very clean and well presented, but we had some drinks in the room on our first night, which were not removed the next day after house keeping had been, and in fact stayed in the room for 2 nights.
We could have put them in the corridor, but we stayed in Gresham House part of the hotel and the corridors were not that wide. - Noise when in the room was quite bad from the people in next door - I know this is not just down to the hotel and more about the occupants behaviour, but given this is a luxury hotel with a pretty hefty price tag, then it's maybe something the hotel can explore - Personally I think if you've paid for a more expensive room, or even staying more than 1 night, you should get preference when it comes to using the car park.
It did seem that if you had Jaguar, Range Rover or Maserati, that you got to park in the small hotel car park, even if you had a cheaper room. Don't get me wrong this is a very nice hotel, that's towards the top end of luxury. It has a lot of things going for it, that are being performed brilliantly. The staff were very attentive - especially at breakfast.
The overall decor was also to a very high standard, everything pointed towards up market. My only other suggestion, don't allow shorts to be worn in any of the dining areas, it lowered the tone extensively

Terrible service and no empathy. I booked a hotel for October to go to my friends wedding. The wedding was cancelled and the hotel refuses any refund with multiple weeks notice of cancel. They say I booked a guaranteed rate through hotels.com and they won't make any exception for the extenuating circumstances. The manager was incredibly rude, offered no condolences for the situation, and seemed to enjoy delivering the bad news in my opinion.
One of the employees promised me the day before if I called back and explained the circumstances that the hotel would refund me. Now I've wasted time talking to rudest hospitality manager, and I would refuse to ever come here and deal with such an appallingly terrible leadership team to oversee my stay. Thanks for being the worst in my opinion

The 5 stars are for the bartender Louis. He makes THE BEST Cucumber Collins, White Russian, and Burned Breakfast. He is also one of the nicest guys I've talked to - super caring and patient. When I couldn't decide what to get, he recommended drinks that became my instant favs! His Cucumber Collins also turned me into a Gin lover. I've had nice bartenders back in the US, but Louis is totally at the next level.
I wish my trip was longer, and although I've just been back home for a couple of days, I'm already craving those delicious drinks and the great experience. Thank you Loui. Hope me and my coworkers will have a chance to meet you again in the future!

I loved this hotel! The staff was welcoming and the layout clean and comfortable. Their food and breakfast buffet: delicious. They have a vintage Bentley and a gallant Chauffer, Elliott, who is charming and always willing to drive you to a nearby location. They have bikes to loan out to their guests which makes for a wonderful Saturday past time especially when the weather is nice (which it was!). I am definitely going back. Keep up the great hospitality.

Positions itself as a boutique, luxury hotel on its website. It is not. The common areas have recently been renovated. and are fine. But the rooms are TINY and need a refresh. I booked a room with a King bed, 3 months in advance with a specific note around why we needed a King (exceptionally tall partner). I paid close to USD$300 for a room that - had two separated single beds - had no wardrobe - had nowhere to put bags, the space was so small we had to move them around to open and close the door - didn't have working wifi - the bathroom was so small that there was nowhere to put a small toiletry bag - overlooked a carpark - the towels had a strong chemical smell I complained - the staff were really nice and apologetic and admitted they should have given us a King room given how far in advance I requested and the special note applied.
They promised me they would give me a 30% discount to my credit card on Monday (they charged my card in full a few hours before I arrived at the hotel). It is 7 full days since I checked out, I have chased and got no answer and then I sent a follow up email to another address and finally someone answered. Now I am waiting for someone to call me so I can give them my credit card details so the can provide the discount.

Good location but an unreasonably dated hotel that was a poor value. No irons in the room. If you call and request an iron you'll get it for the day but then it will be reclaimed by the staff while your out. Call again each and every morning for the iron or iron everything you want ironed at one time. Uncomfortable bed. I stay in a hotel 2-3 times a month on travel over the past 10 years and this is the worst I've stayed in.
