Welcome to the Pen-Y-Gwryd Hotel, a long established and traditional British mountaineer's hotel in Snowdonia, North Wales. Our historic hotel at the foot of Snowdon is where Hillary and Tenzing trained for the first successful ascent of Mount Everest in 1953, and where today's visitors can get a real taste of adventure in the beautiful wilderness of Snowdonia National Park.
When Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay first stood on the top of Mount Everest, only a handful of people knew the debt of gratitude they owed not only to the mountains of North Wales but also to a little hotel in the lee of Snowdon.

Services
Built in 1810 as a remote mountain farmhouse, extended and used as a coaching inn and later as the training headquarters of the first successful Everest climbing expedition in 1953, and now run as a haven safe from the relentless grind of modernity, there are few hotels that can boast such a unique history and location as the Pen-y-Gwryd.
If you wish to book or enquire about bookings and availability please call 01286 870211 for an immediate response, as telephone enquiries always take priority over email enquiries. Please only use email for more general enquiries. Email correspondence can be arranged over the phone for larger groups - please enquire by phone in the first instance.
For that corporate event, whether you want to motivate, entertain, innovate or simply say 'thank you', Snowdonia offers a wealth of opportunity for you, your colleagues or your employees. The Pen-Y-Gwryd offers the ideal location for teambuilding and the strengthening of bonds. Whether you need exciting ideas for an amazing activity day, a quality conference venue, a party planner or a combination of all three, we are brimming with great ideas and offer the most competitive rates - and all in an environment of outstanding natural beauty.
In the lee of Snowdon (Eryri to the Welsh) stands the inn Pen-y-Gwryd (PYG to generations of climbers), and here I have come to think about Mount Everest (Chomolungma to the Sherpas). A national treasure, in the same family since 1947, this delightfully eccentric climbing inn has changed mercifully little over the years and offers simple pleasures in abundance.

What a magical place! The atmosphere is truly something else. The team is young, professional and extremely friendly. The kitchen is extraordinary (5*). And the rooms are clean and authentic. We especially enjoyed the sauna in the backyard after our walks and a swim in the clear lake with this impressive mountain view. We stayed here for a family reunion (a group of 20!) and no matter the chaos the team was so caring making sure everyone was fed taken care of. We created many new memories during our stay at the Pen-y-Gwryd-Hotel. Thank you!

Arrived after a long hike from Bedgelert to find the place closed, we only wanted a drink after hiking in the heat. It's not mentioned on any site or Google that they close to the public for drinking in the afternoon. We arrived at 15.45 on Wednesday 15th June. Famished, hungry. Sat on the bench outside looking on the website at all the offerings they didn't provide as they was closed Advice to the owner.
Please better publisize your opening hours and what you offer and when. The sign outside says the "House of British Mountaineering" for these to mountainers it looks British Mountaineering has got up and left!

What a place! If you want a walking weekend away from all mod cons this is the place, surrounded by dramatic mountains and breath taking views this little gem is perfect, take a step back into history with all the artifacts from Edmund Hillary's quests to Everest. Staff are so so helpful and polite and excellent food prepared by the new chef. Definitely going back!
