Please allow me to introduce ourselves. We are Jon & Sarah Palmer and have owned and personally run the Pen Mill Hotel since 2003. We have taken the business from a drinking pub with live music to one of the areas most successful award winning, hotel based, food led pubs. Our success comes from shear hard work, determination and a love for our independent hotel.

Food is what we are becoming increasingly famous for. Not only in Yeovil but also the surrounding area, bringing in customers from 10, 20, 30 miles plus away. Part of the reason for our wonderful success is our continuity in our kitchen staff. Sarah, co-owner, along with Head Chef Sean, oversees all in this area.

Our stay was most definitely a game of two halves. The staff were all lovely and the breakfast was excellent. However the room was very tatty, the road noise/people noise made it quite hard to sleep and the window in the bathroom leaked making all our toiletries wet. The blind in the bathroom was very grubby and if you kept it open people walking down the road could see you on the toilet! It was a shame because as I say the food was good but the room definitely needed some work.

I was visiting for the weekend and we attended a carvery at Pen Mill Hotel. Really lovely building and well kept. Greeted by cheerful staff, we were taken to our table very quickly and our drinks and food request was taken straight away. The drinks took a little while to arrive however, they were just busy and it can't be helped. We went to choose our meat, all looked lovely and well preppared.
The chef was such a lovely happy woman, really made us smile, very well mannered and had a really lovely vibe. I chose turkey, excellent portions. The roast potatoes were divine, crispy on the outside perfectly fluffy inside. All of the vegetables were fab and the gravy was on key. Great selection of sauces too. I would definitely recommend this eatery to others and would visit again.

We went for the carvery on Sunday which was absolutely superb, three meats available, Turkey, beef and gammon. Lots of well cooked(not overdone!) Veggies and Yorkshires, gravy by the bucket load too. Not the cheapest around at 15 per person plus a beer each so bang goes 40 quid but was delicious. I'll be going back, see you there!

The food was good and fairly priced (2 of us had the veggie curry and 1had the ribeye steak) but what really made the evening was the staff. From the manager greeting us and taking us to our table to the attentive and friendly waiting staff, each and every member was a credit to Pen Mill. They took the time to talk, were very attentive-without being intrusive-and they were all so friendly.

I've had the pleasure of two separate evenings out this week for meals at the Pen Mill. The food has been great but a special mention must go to the member of staff called Charlotte. She has dealt with different allergies brilliantly and done everything she could to ensure our evenings have been safe and extremely enjoyable. Thoroughly recommend the Pen Mill for a wonderful evening out.

This is a superb venue - as somewhere to eat (the menu, food and presentation are Michelin star quality) as somewhere to drink (Cask Marque Accreditation with Certificate - the Ales really are in noble condition) as a convenient place to meet (good car park and easily accessible) and even as a historic place to visit (there's plenty of documentary reference of the place going back to 1828 and even before) This reviewer had arranged this venue to meet ex publican friends who had very discerning tastes; he regarding beer, and she concerning food. It was with satisfaction that they regaled the place as effusively as I did.

Fantastic, very welcoming, made a last minute booking for a table for two. No problem. Warmly welcomed. Great customer service from genuinely relaxed and pleasant staff who obviously enjoy their job. Quietly attentive waiting staff who were engaging. Excellent all round. Customer care is obviously a high priority here. Will definitely go again.

Stayed from 20th September for 3 nights. Got checked early. Housekeeper very friendly and helpful. All the staff were friendly. On our visit the food was absolutely excellent amazing Wednesday evening carvery. Room was clean and tidy, only thing road noise, couldn't leave windows open, therefore made room hot and I've said this before about this room we had, is that the door to the shower was a tight squeeze for both of us
