Services
The Old Vicarageis located in a quiet and peaceful area of Shropshire, yet close to the towns of Bridgnorth, Much Wenlock & Telford. Good Hotel Guide- This gabled, red brick Edwardian ex-parsonage, now a hotel/restaurant (Pride of Britain), was liked by a regular Guide correspondent in 2003 for 'its food and friendliness'.
I decided to celebrate my 50th Birthday at the Old Vicarage. I had a total of 24 guests for Sunday Lunch and it was just perfect. From the very beginning of me organising the meal, Sarah was so helpful & accommodating to my requirements. I had a long table in the Orangery, the table & chairs were covered to exactly what I wanted, we were even very discreetly sectioned off from the other diners with a beautiful flower display. The food was excellent and all the staff were so professional and nothing too much trouble.
Our bedrooms feature all the facilities you need from a comfortable bed, TV, free Wi-Fi access and a clean and modern bathroom. Some rooms also have private patio access. One guest described The Old Vicarage as providing a wish-list of features for a Country House Hotel: Stunning, secluded, location; individually designed bedrooms combining period features with modern amenities: an abundance of antiques; a choice of rooms including four-posters, half testers - even garden rooms with their own patio: sparkling, luxurious bathrooms; and excellent facilities for the disabled.
We pride ourselves on using Shropshire produce and local ingredients wherever possible with regularly updated menus to reflect the changing seasons. Guests can select from lunch and dinner menus, including a good choice of vegetarian dishes. Our traditional Sunday Lunch menu changes every weekend to offer new and exciting choices for you to choose from.

The food here is excellent and the staff are very kind and friendly. I was photographing a wedding here today and it was a lovely day. This is a fantastic wedding venue and I'm hoping to work here again in the future!

The setting and views were fantastic, the building itself was very nice too. Sadly the food left much to be desired and the service wasn't much better. Portion size on the Mother's Day meals was poor, especially the beef. Soggy Yorkshire pudding and a lack of gravy too. Putting 3 very large roast potatoes on the plate to pad out the meal doesn't make it worth 20.

Portion size on the puddings was also not great. Other tables were complaining about having waited over an hour and not had any food, luckily ours what little of it there was, didn't take quite that long. Though having to ask three times for the bill and twice for the card machine topped it all off.

I'm very sorry to have to complain about the service received and food served during Mothering Sunday. I understand that there were a few issues with the power but on arriving we waited 30 minutes to be seated. Once seated we then had to wait another 20 minutes for our starter which was only pate and did not have brioche bread which was stated on the menu but what seemed to us like a piece of toasted aldi bread.

We then chased our main course due to now being at the old vicage for one hr and 30, and we were not impressed with the main (the beef had uncooked fat on, little gravy and portions sizes were poor). In total from turning up to leaving the restaurant was nearly 3 hours. We even went to the bar to pay as nobody came back with the card machine after asking for our bill which was incorrect (3 teas added on?l).

The staff were not very apologetic and one member seemed to be crying as she served our starters. This was very awkward for the entire restaurant as you could hear people talking about how stressed the staff seemed. I was very embarrassed for my mum as this was a surprise meal out as we do not live in the area. Due to not wanted to embarrass my mother and the already upset staff I felt I could not complain at the time.

So unfortunately we will not be returning to what is a beautiful setting but needs a lot of work for the money paid for a poor meal out. Having contacted the Old Vicarage direct, their response was due to inexperienced staff which I think is an awful excuse to use for bad service and food especially on an important day like Mother's day.

Wonderful setting, Very friendly and accommodating. Would be fabulous for a wedding or celebration. amazing views. Bathroom and some areas of the room were a little bit tired but you know its so wonderful you forgive that and the pricing is realistic and reflects the odd thing. Cant be easy as an independant in these uncertain times but this place oozes quality and comfort and there is no stinting.

Breakfast delicious and a superb choice of dishes, We had 3 rooms and everyone of us thorougly enjoyed our stay and can't wait to return. Thank you all so much for a lovely stay Williams Family
