Booked for dinner. 2 meal course. The food was outstanding for Shrewsbury standards. Our mains slightly on the cold side, but we think this was because they had a private garden party and the waitresses team was preoccupied and weren't keeping an eye on what was coming out of that kitchen. I feel after the pandemic our expectations are higher than before especially as we know we can do better at home.
That's why it's a 3 and not a 5 star review for service. I know you are exhausted dear hospitality professionals but remember with cost of living crisis, customers expect much much more than ever before as we pay to attend something special.

The food was really good, it was roast dinner and was cooked great and enjoyable. Wine connoisseur was super helpful and kind. But. we were over charged by 52 and was not offered any apology/ explanation on return. Random things were added to our bill. Personally I would be mortified if I overcharged customers by 50+ but nope. Not impressed. Glad I looked at the receipt

Chic/boutique. Nicely decorated. Our biggest issue was, no lift and no one offered to help with our bags. A busy, quite noisy hotel with not much in the way of comfortable seating downstairs. Disappointed to see black mould on the grout in the shower, quite sure this would be easily addressed with a little brush and 'elbow grease'. Location ideal for both town and river walks. Probably suited more to the younger generation. I doubt we would stop here again.

The evening meal in the restaurant was a bit disappointing. We went through three drinks choices they didn't have. So I just had estrella. That's fine. Other half's meal just ended up being some roast veg. Mine was the size of a starter, and mixed up broccoli with rocket salad. Breakfast I had one sausage. And not even a good sized. Half a black pudding.
And half a mushroom. Which I asked not to. Its a good job I'm not allergic or anything. Scrambled egg was nice though ill give them that. WiFi didn't get to our room as it was about 4 shops away, I didn't fit under the shower. The location of the hotel is great, the decor stylish and modern but that ends up being the overall problem with the lion and pheasant, the style is way more important than the substance.

The food was beautifully presented and also delicious. The service was great and the facilities were clean and tastefully decorated. The chef created elegant versions of well-known desserts (such as apple strudel and black forest gateau) which looked nothing like the original but had all the flavours and textures that one would have expected to find. It was a real treat for our whole family. Will come again.

A good boutique style hotel. Room was comfortable although the double bed felt a little small. Bathroom was adequate but could have used a little TLC. Excellent bar areas downstairs and the breakfasts were very good. Limited parking at the rear but it's a bit of a squeeze to get in. I would certainly recommend staying here if you are staying in Shrewsbury.
