If you are looking for a quaint town and county with a mix of the old and the new to visit on your next vacation, why not add Shrewsbury and Shropshire to your bucket list? Located in western England, the town of Shrewsbury sits inside the River Severn's loop with half-timbered Tudor buildings and magnificent Georgian houses. Beautiful gardens and narrow winding streets complete the picture. Housing a permanent exhibit of pre-history and roman artefacts, the museum also features temporary exhibitions from local and upcoming artists.

Arrived to pre booked rooms. Very friendly, efficient reception. Room is spotless, lovely shower, comfortable beds. Close to centre of town, cafes, bars and shops aplenty. Lovely private garden, with lots of seats. Close to parking, the river walks etc. 2 guest lounges, dog friendly garden rooms available.

Wow this place has to be on our hit list for the best places to stay in the UK. The uotel is themed around Darwin so loads of information and items adorn the hotel and the surrounding grounds. Gives it that funky vibe. Breakfast you can tell that the chef is evidently in tune with food. The Eggs Benedict was superbly cooked along with all the accompanying breakfast items made it a very enjoyable eating session Room wise, just perfect with a big comfy bed and again top quality hot chocolate and coffee bags, individual biscuits and top quality shower items The staff, what can I say, not only were they informative but also just so delightful to talk to. We left knowing we would return for certain very soon

We just stayed here for the second time and really enjoyed our stay. The sitting rooms with the honesty bar are lovely, staff is very friendly and breakfast is good. We stayed in one of the garden rooms and they are very small. Perfectly fine for a short stay but perhaps not for more than a couple of nights. The WiFi was not working in the garden building during our stay.
We were offered to change to a different room in the main building but as we were just heading out for the day and did not return until after staff had left (6 pm) that did not happen. The biscuits and varied selection of teas in the room were very appreciated but unfortunately the kettle was so dirty I could not use it. Aside from that, the room was cleaner than average.

Disappointing! Not a good value for money! Our room was number 4, a more expensive and described as a large room with a garden view. Well it was quite small and there was no garden view. In fact the view was of the roof of the breakfast room extension and a car park. We could not see the garden at all. The description was therefore misleading. On arrival the room smelled of boiled eggs and the bathroom had strong smell of drains.
I had to open the window as soon as I got in. The room furniture was quite old and tired and a bit dirty. The bed was comfortable but the 4 oval ornamental pictures of bugs on the wall didn't help. I appreciate a guesthouse called Darwin may have pictures of bugs but perhaps somewhere other than in the bedroom. There were bare minimal toiletries in the bathroom and an old plastic kettle opposite the bed with a box of tea bags.
Everything was basic and looking tired. I was surprised that there were a couple of robes in the wardrobe, although one of the robes was used, crumpled and left on the wardrobe floor. I was pleased that It was promptly changed when I raised the issue. The good points about this guesthouse were the breakfast and location. The staff were pleasant but not very professional.
At the time of checking out, the lady at the reception was having a personal conversation and I had to leave the key on the desk and wave goodbye whilst she continued her call. I would not stay there again.
