The Henley was originally built as a holiday cottage during Edwardian times and still retains the cosy atmosphere of a private home rather than a hotel. All bedrooms have a wonderful view. Very well appointed room and bathroom. Martin & Petra provide the most delicious dinners as well as friendly and helpful local advice. Comfortable sitting room with numerous magazines and books. The path down to the beach direct from the hotel was a great bonus for us making it so easy to walk along the gorgeous shoreline.

Our beautiful veranda dining room overlooking Bigbury Bay is for resident guests only. Please be aware, that we only offer a limited menu and that we need THREE DAYS ADVANCED NOTICE, if you should wish to dine. The Henley was originally built during the Edwardian times as a holiday cottage and today still retains the cosy atmosphere of a private home rather than a hotel, overlooking one of the most spectacular coastal views in Devon spanning the Avon Estuary around to Burgh Island and beyond.
Bigbury-on-Sea is the perfect holiday destination, set within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and is perhaps one of the most unspoilt coastal regions of the South West of England. The village sits across Devon's coastal footpath, the South West Coast Path, which links Bigbury to Challaborough Bay and Arymer Cove to the west, and the Avon valley to the east.

A truly exceptional small hotel. They only have five rooms, and we were told that due to COVID they were currently only using four of them. Our room (room 5) was lovely, with views across the end of the estuary and down the coast. Perfectly clean, with two comfy armchairs and a super king bed. The bathroom was spacious and very clean. The owners are very friendly and happy to chat.
The lounge was very comfortable with lovely views. There were hand sanitiser bottles in the room and throughout the communal areas. We kept the same table throughout our three night stay as a sensible COVID precaution. There aren't many places to eat in the area, and we're really glad we went for half board. The breakfasts are great - good quality ingredients, well cooked. However, the evening meals were truly superb.
Normally two choices for each of the three courses, and I can honestly say that the meal I had with chicken soup starter, john dory main, and tiramisu dessert was one of the best meals I've ever had. I can thoroughly recommend The Henley.

An exceptional B&B. Petra and Martyn work really hard to make everybody feel very welcome and their standards of hospitality are impressively high. The bedrooms are all lovely and light filled spaces with stunning views of the sea. The house is immaculately clean throughout. Hand sanitisers and social distancing measures were elegantly but not obtrusively observed. Steam cleaned bathrooms and one way house traffic was also very reassuring for an anxious older traveller.
The bed linen was all crisp and white and the beds are feather topped wonders. The Henley is the most perfectly sited place to start a coastal walk from as it is actually sited on a cliff overlooking Bigbury bay and Burgh Island. Swimming was fresh and lovely in the sea. One could easily scramble down a rock stairwell to a wide and private sandy beach below.
We booked in for dinner and were again delighted by the unexpectedly high standards. We were offered a short but perfect menu of beautifully prepared local treats. We enjoyed memorably delicious crab salads, sea bass and filet steak. I really can't wait to return.

Without a doubt, one of the best B&B experiences I've ever had. I stayed here while walking the coast path (less than 5 mins off the path), and would have stayed many more nights if I had the time! The room was wonderful - spacious, clean, king bed, bath tub for soaking my sore legs, and there were robes to relax in. The breakfast was SO good (best fruit salad I've ever had), and the views were wonderful. I would absolutely recommend this B&B to anyone in the area.
