In 2020, The Granary Hotel & Restaurant celebrated 42 years in business. The Granary has always been a family run business and started after Jon & Wendy May bought what was a transport cafe. The May family and Kelvin their Head Chef; introduced one of the first Carvery Restaurants in the area. Kelvin and the staff at the time worked hard to make the restaurant a place to be seen in, in the area. As the restaurant was so popular, the customers were asking if they could get married, hold private parties, christenings and corporate events, etc.
Whether you are planning a Church wedding, a Civil Wedding, a Renewal of Vows or simply booking for a Reception venue, the Granary can oblige. You will find organising your Wedding with us a pleasure, from first contact with Wedding Coordinator, Katie Hughes, to the big day itself. We will always keep you informed and strive to go that extra mile to ensure your requirements are fulfilled.
Have a hearty A la Carte breakfast to start your day. A sumptuous buffet table and a great choice of dishes created just for you on the day. Breakfast at the Granary Restaurant is served 7-9am Monday to Friday and 8 -10am Saturday and Sunday. Perfect for residents and visitors alike. Come and join us for a leisurely lunch served Tuesday to Friday 12pm - 2pm.
Our partner, Amber Support Services provides and supervises Learning Disability clients with training in all aspects of horticulture and other indoor creative arts. If you want to get an impression of how much this means - just take a look at the smiles on the face of the clients. It says it all. This will be processed by Halfpenny Green vineyard into a Still Rose - and the hotel's first ever Sparking wine available in 2020.

Being charged 15 for extra & unsuitable bed for my 1 y old is something overwhelming. Not mentioning that most of "entries" elsewhere in UK are free for babies, whatever is a museum, attraction park, hotels etc. The worst part we have been told to pay at the reception when checking-in, like a very last minute with no choice (+you just want to settle your baby after a long way), despite having it booked way ahead and asking if there is a change to get travel cot in a room. And receiving the confirmation email, like yes, all good, no problems at all. The positive note goes to receptionist, great customer service, thanks

Booked a wedding at a granary in 2021 when we booked it we were sure that we would have 10 rooms for a close family we paid a deposit when we booked it got a phone call in January to discuss the rooms advised that there is only six rooms at this point we had already paid 6000 they could not fulfil the contract of the 10 rooms they had renovations to the old building and we stated this is not what we asked for they suggested doing pop-up beds for our guests and we didn't agree with it as the rooms were not big enough to put the puppets in we arrange the meeting with the manager on the Saturday morning on the 30th of January we attended the appointment and the manager did not show up the builder name Sean shoulders around the villa that they were renovating which was half done not even half done however we said this is not what we signed up for the manager rang while we were looking around and my partner asked to speak to the manager Shaun the builder put the phone on loudspeaker and my partner said this is not what we agreed and asked for a refund the manager agreed to a refund and will send me a cancellation form through via email that never happened rang to Hotel again and reception staff so the manager wants another meeting we arrange another meeting two weeks after and the manager stated that he only offered a refund because he thought we only paid 1000 he had two weeks prior to look at a file to find out that we paid 6000 and retracted on his offer of a refund we have lost 3000 because the granary have a good goodwill gesture paid 3000 back. I wouldn't book a wedding here or any other venue because they tell you lies and turn it around it on you

This was a Fathers Day/80th Birthday Meal booking for 19/06/22. Called over a month ago to see if we could book a table for 10. A Staff member explained they were shut for refurbishment but didn't know if they were doing Fathers Day and said someone would call me back. No one called after two days, so called them again. A Staff member again couldn't confirm my booking, but did call back to confirm a table was indeed reserved. Called Monday 13/06 just to check as nervous about it not being open last month.
Again i had to get a call back as nobody seemed to know. Received a call back from a staff member who apologized they had cancelled the event due to lack of bookings. I had a week to now find something suitable for a party of 10. Luckily i managed to get a table at an Italian Restaurant we use regularly. Phew! What can i say, but not a pleasant experience at all, when do you think they were going let me know, or were we all going to turn up Sunday and find the restaurant shut. Poor, Poor!

Disappointed. Booked a "superior double room" and was given an10x12ft room with a shower room in the corner. As I was staying for a week, I had nowhere to lay out my clothes so ended up using the ironing board as a shelf. Be Aware! The main building is like the Mary-Celeste and the hotel building has been sold off to developers and is to become a nursing home. Guests now stay in the house on the main road.
There are no facilities available to guests, no bar or restaurant. I would call this a B&B with no breakfast at best. Due to the rural location, one can feel isolated, for me this was awful. There is a country public house within ten minutes walking distance. I must add that my room, although very small, was very clean and new.

Thank goodness for Sainsbury' on Mother's Day! So table booked for Mothers days(27/03) on 2nd March for 8. On arrival first thing that struck us was that the once smart hotel rooms adjacent to the main building was fenced off meaning that we had to park round the back of the restraunt on what can be described (at best!) rough ground. On entry to the restraunt we were met with a stale smell and a gent who once we gave our name quickly retreated to get another member of staff. ALARM BELLS!
The smartly dressed gent explained that there was no booking for our party even after we explained that we had placed a 10 deposit per person when booking! He did, try to get us a table but after 40mins wait and a complimentary drink (red wine was off and had to be changed & dirty glasses for the other drinks) and a conversation (finally after a 40 min wait) with the owner, we were refunded out deposits. 3:00pm on Mother's Day what to do? Sainsburys to the rescue!
This establishment used to be a place of prestige, but meeting the new owner it's evident the establishment will be wound down, so that the footprint will be turned into residential accommodation in a much sought after area. Anyone thinking of weddings or any other anniversary settings be very wary, as you might find yourself as disappointed as we were if not more! Feel sorry for the new owners - mores to be pitied than scorned!

I think it is fair to say our wedding was a slightly mixed bag - but overall more positives than negatives. The day and night itself went very smoothly, in large part thanks to Katie and Abby's hard work and organisation - massive thanks to them. The waiters and bar staff were all friendly and helpful, and it was a fantastic wedding for everyone who attended.
In terms of negatives, the Groom's party got ready in a hotel room that wasn't being used - but you would expect the room to be in a better state even if no guests were staying there. Lipstick on the wall, floor and even on the toilet paper. The toilet seat was completely broken which wasn't a pleasant surprise. For guests who stayed over on-site at the hotel, the experience did not live up to the price they paid.
Several guests struggled with how cold the rooms were, even with the small radiators provided. The air con units were broken in the breakfast area meaning it was so cold you could see your breath in front of you - multiple radiators were brought through to help but that caused the lights to cut out so we ate breakfast in the dark! Ruby, the waitress at breakfast, tried her very best in challenging circumstances, going above and beyond to ensure the guests were comfortable. Khalid took some money off the bill but it wasn't the best note to end the wedding on.
Overall we have a lot of fantastic memories to look back on so thanks to the team who did make it a great wedding. We just wish the rooms and breakfast had been a better experience.

Arrived yesterday for our Christmas lunch at 1.30pm. Food was lovely! Cooked very well. I think the heating should be turned on in the toilets because it was a very cold day. Waitress was very rude when I asked her for some Tin foil so I could take a couple of slices of Turkey home for my lovely dog! I was told that I wasn't allowed. Obviously I was very annoyed after all I paid for it.
I of course told her this, and she then told me to hurry up so she could take the plate. So so rude! She clearly has no waitress skills, and certainly not customer friendly. My friend complained to the manager, quite rightly so. 95.00 per head is a lot of money to pay to be treated like that. Suggest the management train their staff to be POLITE and CUSTOMER friendly.

Oh dear. Beware. Don't go here if you have an elderly dependant who is frightened of covid. My 90yr old Mom so wanted to dine here on Boxing Day, but, the Goverment advises much care from Boxing Day onwards. To protect Mom we asked to cancel & return deposit. Management refused. What an awful response to out vulnerable elderly. Obv I will not eat here again. What terrible attitude in such trying times.

My daughter booked her wedding here as she wanted an all in package. Everything was going smoothly until the last month before the wedding day. The hotel contacted her asking for the balance to be paid as her account was 7000 short. My daughter explained that it was paid months ago into the account THEY emailed her. After a few hours they called to say the hotel email was hacked and my daughter and another brides details had been compromised.
We put a claim in with the bank and told it would be sorted within 15 working days. This would take us a day after the wedding. We had a meeting with one of the owners to see what could be done. The hotel took NO responsibility and were told the balance needed paying within 7 days. They would not extend the payment even though they are the ones that got hacked.
The family managed to pay the money for her so the wedding went ahead. On the day it got worse. The bar staff couldn't even pour a pint, in fact several guests ended going behind the bar to do it for them! The reception staff were rude to guests trying to book into the rooms and when they finally got in they were dirty and unclean, some had broken furnishings and one had a broken toilet flush button with tape over it.
When mentioned to the one of the owners he got extremely rude and arrogant. He called one of the guests a lier and threatened to call the police. The three course meal took over 3 hours to serve. It took 40 MINUTES to serve the starters then 45 to serve the mains. Some guests had to leave before dessert as they had other commitments. When we asked why it was taking so long we got a sarcastic response off one of the staff.
When the dessert a finally came it was the wrong one. Due to the time it took to actually get it we just accepted it. After the meal my son went to the bar to get a drink and one of the staff offered him drugs. When he said no they asked him not to tell the manager. We did. Katie the wedding arranger did her best but the owner we dealt with was arrogant and delusional, definitely in the wrong profession. Weddings are hopefully a once in a lifetime occasion. Please do not trust this hotel with your special day.

Came here for a wedding and myself, the groom, bride and brides father spent most of the night sorting out the rooms which were disgusting to a point it was like staying in a prison. When we asked the manager what he was going to do about it he simply replied 'if you don't like it get a taxi to the hotel down the road'. Cannot fault the wedding organiser, Katie, she couldn't do enough for everyone and she is amazing at her job, nor can I fault the wedding itself, it is just a shame that after all the money that was given to the hotel, the new management and staff just don't seem to care, bar staff were inexperienced and didn't even know how to pour a pint, I actually had to go behind the bar and show them how to do it. Will not be staying here again and I'd advise anyone looking to book a wedding or even just a weekend away, find a different hotel.

Stay away! FRAUD, DRUGS OFFERED TO GUESTS! We came here for a wedding. Firstly the bride got defrauded out of 7000 as the hotels emails got hacked, they did not take any liability or offer sincere solution. We thought the nightmare would end there but it was just the beginning. Rooms were grotty, dirty and not worth the money we paid (95). Toilet roll holder falling off, grout in tiles mouldy, only had 3 fans for the whole palace so boiling in room!
Bar staff were horrific, slow, rude, couldn't even poor a pint! Guests literally went behind the bar to pour pints and show THEIR staff how to do it! The wedding breakfast. it took an hour per course! The dessert was not what was arranged. The wedding planner was MIA when the speeches came to an end, leaving everyone awkward and confused. Moving back to the bar staff who offered the Brides brother DRUGS!
With concerned guests met with attitude and rude remarks from the manager though his staff couldn't poor drinks but obviously found it completely acceptable to offer people drugs. Avoid at all costs. Absolutely disgusting and trampy rooms and service.

Visited here for a wedding and must say what a lovely place. The food was fantastic and great staff. My only minor gripe was price of drinks but guess this is always the case with events and maybe I've lost touch with prices having not been out much during the past 18 months for obvious reasons! Overall a great place and would recommend either to go for a meal or to book for a special occasion.
