We decided to visit the cricketers for my birthday as we had not been for a while, since it has been brought over we are very disappointed in the food. All menus online have a wide choice but on the night we only had a few choices. It also states that all food is cooked fresh in house that morning, this is not true as we had bread on the table and it was all still frozen.
They put more in the oven and it came out dry and hard. The food was average. The steak was over cooked and very fatty. We decided not to say anything as we did not want the hassle. The desert ordered were all mixed up and not nice either. Real let down in our opinion. For the amount we were charged it was a complete rip off. This would never have happened when the Oliver's owed the restaurant.

Nice pub well out of the city. Really nice roads around for a scenic drive to get there. The actual place is unique. The ceiling in the pub was so low I had to bend down. I only has something small but others I was with were happy. Be careful of portions. The lamb meal was massive. The fish meal that comes on an oyster shell was super small for an adult male. Staff were friendly. I'd go again and try something bigger.

We have frequented this establishment on many occasions for our company and have our Christmas function there every Christmas. The refurbishment is an absolutely credit the Cheshnut Group. The restaurant as a lovely warm feeling and the new layout is so much better. The rooms which have all had a major overall do not disappoint in anyway. Just the other evening 22 of us were there to say a fond farewell to one of the team who was retiring.
As with everything with these events names, menu choices change all the time but thanks to Jay the General Manager and the guys at Head Office this was all carried out efficiently and quickly. The food on the night was amazing and I would have to say most probably the best food to be served since it was taken over. The charm of this property remains and will always be a go to when we have events. Thank you to all the team for making this evening so so special for all who attended.

Ordered fish and chips which was very average, fish was quite small and chips were not great. Waitress did not offer sauces when she brought our food so my chips were even drier. I notice the waitress also asked other people if everything was fine with their meals but did not ask us which seemed odd. Desert was nice but expect more for 7.50. My partner had pie which was nice. I did notice on my way out another person had what looked like a bigger piece of fish with a good amount of flesh on it. I would not recommend going here.

Food choice and taste excellent. Atmosphere in the restaurant and staff great. Slightly disappointed that we chose a weekend when a group of rowdy guests were stopping, who thought it was fine to sing, talk shout loudly and generally be guests from hell. Also unfortunately for us this was topped of by the guests in the room above us who seemed unaware they were over a room and stomped, scraped and banged doors.

This is the first time we have visited since Mr and Mrs Oliver handed over the reins. We had looked at the sample menu on.line and there was a good choice of meals. However the menu at the restaurant was completely different and far less choice. Also on line it said to look for the specials. There were no specials. There was not one starter we wanted and struggled to choose a main meal from the 6 available.
There also was no cheese board as an alternative to a dessert. We did enquire but was told they do not get cheese in for the weekend. The meal was adequate but definitely overpriced. Bottles of wine were also overpriced. However the room was nice and most of the staff were friendly. Breakfast was good. Would not rush to visit again.

Disappointing, and overpriced, wouldn't recommend to anyone. Went in for a Sunday roast with a friend from overseas, and it was scraping for average. Even though the pub was empty we were squeezed onto a very small table in the walkway, and that was made to feel like a favour. Even though I explained to the server we were slightly pressed for time I then had to remind him twice that they hadn't taken our orders.
Then the food came! Over cooked veg with weird taste, roast potatoes dry and old tasting, very likely reheated from an earlier service, and yorkshire which wasn't included in the roast was over cooked and dry so that it crumbles into dust when cut. This was the very opening of service so there's no excuse. The staff seemed depressed, short and like they were doing us a favour.
When I mentioned the potato issue the lady looked utterly uninterested and made no step to engage or solve it. It was on the expensive end for a pub roast, especially when the standards were more like airport food.ll on all not a good meal, not a good example of a decent Sunday pub experience for my friend from abroad, and Won't be in again. Not the pub it used to be.

Went for Sunday Lunch. My wife and I had roast pork which was very nice my daughters had roast beef and one had sausage and mash. It was all tasty. I was a bit disappointed with my daughters roast beef. A child's portion 9 was a single small slice of beef, potatoes and veg. Yorkshire pudding is her favourite part and she didn't get one. She ended up sharing ours. Thought the price was high end (over 70 for two adults two children one drink each only a main course) so wouldn't rush back.

We travelled quite a ways to get here, and it didn't disappoint. We like Jamie Oliver, but the Cricketers is certainly a success in its own right. I had a steak, which was perfectly cooked. We enjoyed starters and desserts, all of which were cooked to our liking. I think the service was good, as was the environment. This is also the pub that introduced my husband to Adnams, a good and bad thing. We loved our experience here, came back with friends, and would happily dine again!

Total Crap! Sorry but that's the only way i can describe it We went there last night & i was looking forward to it they are trading on their reputation how they ever got a mention in the Michelin Guide i will never know i ordered the duck liver as a starter which was so over cooked it was as hard as stone so i sent it back they then replaced it with another one that was just as bad Don't get me wrong i don't mind what i pay for food but i do want it cooked as it should be perhaps they should make use of the numerous Jamie Oliver books around the place

Slightly pretentious but a beautiful pub. It is indeed the original home of Jamie Oliver and he still lives nearby but the pub has been a success in it's own right with or without his name involved. The set up is good and it is a beautiful low ceiling pub. So low in fact that anyone of average height will probably hit their head at some point.
The menu is very good and quite large and mains are between 14 - 18 with fish dishes usually a bit extra. It is mainly frequented by the upper classes so dress appropriately but they still do a lovely pint and have Peroni on tap which is a rarity. There is a great patio out the front that gets the sun all day in the summer and they have B&B accommodation too. Good for a special evening or family do.
