The afternoon tea here is something special. The service from all members of staff is impeccable. Afternoon tea comes with a delicious starter of Old Winchester cheese profiterole, fresh sandwiches, warm scones and fancy patisserie. All wonderful! The setting is gorgeous so make sure you look around the grounds too.

Would I recommend CG? On the basis of the below and a lack of personalisation throughout the experience, I would not necessarily recommend it for family or couples, however, I would consider it for large business groups. The beautiful grounds, the nice SPA and the great location are certainly a plus. Also, the golf course in the garden is very charming.
At the restaurant, service was generally friendly but not experienced and loved having a chat with each other rather than being attentive at times. The food in the main restaurant is seriously underwhelming - the salt aged lamb, the beetroot and the cauliflower soup did not cause any excitement at all. 3 of 4 starters were sent back to the kitchen.
Quite frankly, in light of the quality of the food, I was a bit embarrassed haven chosen this restaurant for our birthday celebrations. The pizza in The Kitchen was okay. The atmosphere is not great though - it very much feels like an American diner and does not feel authentic English countryside. At breakfast, no menu was provided with options. No champagne either. Poached eggs on avocado were good. Buffet was cleared at the minute the clock turned 10.30am regardless of guests' needs.
The bar menu was mainly burgers and generally disappointing and for the quality of the food, pretty overpriced, even if nicely disguised as add-on options. Upon check out at reception we were offered 2 bottles of water for a party of 4. There was no goodie bag or other attentive gesture. The rooms were nice, spacious and clean. Great beds and mattress. The mini bar selection was poor. Again no champagne, no crisps. No fresh fruits. Instead mango chips and oat crackers that were not refreshed / changed during our stay.

I have been here several times and my returning business should indicate how enjoyable this place is. Recently went with mother and sister for a much needed girls detox and rewind and it was just wonderful. Such a lovely place with the loveliest spa and hydrotherapy pools. The restaurant tasting menu was lovely and we all enjoyed it. The spa restaurant did not disappoint for relaxing nibbles. The real selling point however is the relaxing sunny greenery and views.

Chewton Glen has a wonderful location which is a short walk from the Hampshire coastline. It's set in lovely wooded grounds with a heated outdoor pool. The staff are very attentive and it has an excellent restaurant. A few details spoil the overall impression and in my view make this hotel less than five stars. The gym is a bit hopeless and is tiny with a limited range of fitness machines, loose weights and other slightly random kit.
A lot of the interiors feel quite dated given the fairly hefty room rates. The main guest lounge seems quite tired and is in need of an update. Or perhaps this traditional country style is something others appreciate? For me it looks very dated and the awful lounge music was just too much: a loop tape of dubious jazz standards. Our room was comfortable but the very bold wallpaper was just too much for a smallish suite. Overall we had a pleasant stay and being able to take a morning run down to the beach through the hotel's nature reserve was lovely.

Visited for afternoon tea. While the service was attentive once we all sat down, my friends and I arrived at different times and nearly all spent some time wandering about trying to find each other. Nobody to greet you when you arrive. Staff ignore you as you stand around looking lost. No obvious place to wait to be seated so we hung about in the corridor outside the dining room looking expectant and trying to catch someone's eye. Looked like an event was being set up and all the attention was on that.
The afternoon tea itself was OK but for the venue I was expecting to be wowed. Sandwiches were a bit dry. Tea too strong. Some things looked like they'd been hanging about for a bit. Cream filling starting to colour like it does when it's no longer that fresh. These are teeny, tiny things but as I said, the venue and location lead you to expect absolute perfection!
On the positive side, we were well looked after once seated and offered top ups of everything. The scones were delicious as were the cakes. Beautiful table setting too with gorgeous flowers.

We had a wonderful afternoon tea. We've had a few at other well known places, but we can honestly say this was the best one. It was my birthday and the staff went out of their way to make it special. It was very relaxing, sitting looking out of the window. Didn't feel hurried at all. No pressure like with some other places. The service was second to none. Afterwards we were able to walk around the garden.

Fabulous staff! A friendly, efficiently run hotel. Excellent rooms. Everything of the highest standards and quality. Everyone, helpful and went out of their way to make sure you had a comfortable stay. We went there to celebrate mum's 90th birthday - all staff knew it was her birthday they greeted her with a smile and 'happy birthday ' she felt very special. We had lunch at The Kitchen which was wonderful! Delicious food! Again everyone friendly yet efficient. Alice was particularly helpful. Thank you to everyone.

We visited last November and found the hotel, the grounds and the location as great. The staff were all attentive, polite and never over bearing. We ate in the restaurant for both breakfast and evening meals and found the choice and the food was very good. It goes without saying that they have a very extensive wine list. We also found the swimming pool and hydrotherapy pools to be a great way to unwind after a long day.
What let them down in my book was the attention to detail. 1. We reported that the Sky control would not turn the Sky box on but would change channels etc. Rather than change the control all maintenance did was turn the Sky box on by and leave it switched on. How much does a new controller cost against what you are paying for the suite. 2. The door to the bathroom kept sticking on the floor tiles. 3.
For the shower the control knob would come off in your hand if you were not careful. 4. In the separate toilet some of the grout was missing between the floor tiles. 5. The light switches were all at an angle. It is a silly thing but for a 5 Star hotel and what you are paying these do matter as to me it gives the impression that someone does not care. We did not report 2, 3, 4 or 5 because of our experience with point 1.

Here for a wedding. Beautiful grounds and setting. Great rooms. Spa amenities are solid. Be sure to book activities well in advance of your arrival. We failed to do so and so weren't able to do any, but no biggie as there's still plenty of things to do, such as relax and enjoy the scenery. Food here is also excellent. Lots of traditional British dishes that are super tasty. Would recommend also eating meals in the restaurant here.

Just came back from a few lovely days spent here. A few problematic issues, but made up for, by very good customer service. Every time we pointed out a problem, they apologised very sincerely and fixed it immediately. Excellent customer service. Very nice pool bar where a lunch buffet of various healthy options was an absolute highlight of our stay.
Not a fan of the apparently michelin starred 'vetiver' restaurant. A major disappointment. Eat at the bar or the pool bar. But the place itself is charming. Beautiful location, great facilities, excellent personal service, delightful staff. Absolutely loved it.

Http://www.lalatravels.com/2011/04/royal-stay/ Since everyone seems to be channeling the Brits this week you may as well head to the country and live like the royals. No better place to do tea and join a shooting party than at the Chewton Glen. An English Original. Chewton Glen is a luxury country house hotel and spa set in 130 acres of Hampshire countryside on the edge of the New Forest National Park, and just a few minutes' walk from the sea.
A very special place, Chewton Glen is a proud member of Relais & Chateaux, is one of the finest luxury hotels in the UK and has been voted 'One of the Top Hotels in the World' and 'Best Hotel in the British Isles' - at the 2010 Conde Nast Traveller annual readers awards. I have worked here a few times as a wedding photographer and have had a chance to see the rooms and grounds. The grounds are beautiful with a good swimming pool area, pitch and putt course and a very extensive health spa. There is even a landing zone for your helicopter. The rooms that I have seen are chintzy, but very comfortable. Unfortunately, all this comes at a cost and that is what keeps the Hotel exclusive. If you have the money, then there is very little more that you could ask for, but personally I would prefer to stay somewhere that offers better value for money.

. Firstly I have never had the good fortune to stay here but I have been for several lunches. The grounds and hotel are beautifully kept and the staff do an excellent job. They occasionally have guest speaker lunches and I have twice seen Professor Richard Holmes there - most entertaining -including a beautiful lunch with wine at a not TOO expensive cost.
On another occasion we were in the normal dining room and were a bit surprised at how some of the guests were dressed - one in particular was wearing a see through dress! chavs galore. It used to have a bit of an exclusive image. That went a long time ago.

My work was having a celebration and they decided to host it at Chewton Glen. It is a rather beautiful, and massive, redbrick country cottage near Bournemouth. Getting there from London on a friday afternoon was hellish. And our directions from the AA were absolutely useless as they led us up some dirt tracks to some unsuspecting private houses. Eventually we got there, despite the best efforts of the M27 to ruin my evening.
The grounds are beautiful and the staff are excellent. I can't say much about the rooms because we only enjoyed the main function room, but I do know they are incredibly expensive. It is a 5 star hotel, and it certainly looks it. But I can't imagine I'll be popping in every now and then. Even though it boasts several pools and a spa centre, as well as a golf course and helicopter facilities. You can book the entire place for about 50,000 a night. Also, it seems it would be a lovely place for a wedding or other massively special occassion.
