Blazing Donkey Country Hotel Following an undercover visit from one of the senior AA inspectors, our restaurant was awarded its first rosette for culinary excellence under the AA's scheme. Luke, our head chef and Chris, our restaurant manager were delighted to accept the award. This is the bit on most websites where the hotel bangs' on about how perfect everything is. Not us.

In actual fact we like to think that we are somewhat perfectly imperfect. A certain earthiness and rusticity of surroundings speaks to the natural charm of the 'Donkey, a place which is quirkily quintessential and has a magical ability to relax and enthral most, if not all who visit.

The Blazing Donkey is tucked away quietly in the Kent countryside and only a short distance from the ancient cinque port town of Sandwich. We are a little over an hour from London by road and rail and the cross channel port of Dover is a short drive. The magical cathedral city of Canterbury and seaside towns of Margate, Broadstairs, Ramsgate and Deal are also within very easy reach.
Quite simply creating a place where you come and enjoy great food and drink in relaxing and comfortable surroundings is and always has been our aim. Scrub-top tables, flagstone and wooden floors provide a relaxed and convivial environment for dining in the casual bar and barn dining room areas while our gardens and terrace are perfect for alfresco dining and drinking in the warmer months.
Congratulations on you engagement! Now it's time to find that perfect wedding venue to host your dream wedding reception, ceremony or both. Set in stunning Kentish countryside, Blazing Donkey boasts a breathtaking setting for a perfect wedding. Our niche is original, fun, made-to-measure weddings has firmly established us as a first choice venue for weddings in Kent.
The Blazing Donkey has been an Inn since 1763 but in 1995 its accommodation was officially opened by BBC golf legend and friend of the Blazing Donkey the late Peter Alliss. We are a "drive and a wedge" from Sandwich Bay, home to the wonderful links of Princes and its near neighbour Royal St. Georges.

Staff very friendly, breakfast very good. Room in stables block needed a bit of tlc, looked like somebody had tried to escape from the stable door, a chunk of wood had been broken off.

A friendly welcome awaits at this quirky little hideaway deep in the Kentish countryside. You have a choice of comfortable rooms in converted stables or gorgeous glamping in shepherd huts or luxury two bedroom tents. We stayed in the stables and had a very comfortable bed. The main hotel building, an updated old pub, was beautifully decorated with a roaring fire and plenty of beams, but also comfortable furnishings and a stylish modern twist, where every detail had clearly been considered with care.

The service was friendly and excellent, with plenty of local advice and nothing seemed too music trouble. The absolute highlight for me though was the restaurant. The food was delicious, with a young gourmet chef clearly striving to impress, and certainly achieving it. My Halibut was particularly tasty and i'd strongly recommend it, but the entire menu looked great. Breakfast was also wonderful and very generous, which set us up for our day in the nearby charming medieval town of Sandwich.

My husband organised a 2 night stay at the blazing donkey for our Wedding Anniversary, he found a really good deal on Travel Zoo! It literally is in the middle of nowhere, beautiful surroundings, cute country style apartments. Lovely and warm, comfy bed. Iron & Ironing board in the room. I read some of other reviews about the staff being rude, we didn't find this at all infact we found all the staff we delt with very friendly and accommodating especially Chris and Trevor.

Breakfast was lovely, great coffee. The pub itself is very clean, lovely open fire which we were able to sit by and have a drink. Drinks were a bit pricey as were the dinner menus and not great vegetarian options but there are plenty of other places nearby to try in Deal & Sandwich. All in all we had a great stay.

Had a lovely tour around the place. Helpful staff on standby and explained how everything would work and provided more information on request. There is an option for an indoor event if the weather is not very nice. The barn rooms where really nicely decorated, and if people fancy a bit of glamping, there is an option for it as well.

Beautiful cosy venue with beams and open fire with a marquee on the grounds for weddings and events. Nice bar inside the heated marquee and new block of toilets been built on the grounds to cater for event/wedding participants. My friends had their wedding service on the grounds right next to the marquee, then a sit down 3 course meal served. Great place for large parties. I didn't get to see their rooms as they were all booked so I used a local bnb.

Went here for a 21st birthday party, and stayed overnight, the food provided for the party was first class especially the homemade scotch eggs they were phenomenal!the room was very cosy and the bed was sumptuous.the breakfast was very good and came with black pudding-yummy!. The staff were very professional and friendly, my wife had a slip and the treatment received was very good indeed and documented properly. All in all we had a lovely time here and we are planning to return as soon as possible!

Went to meet with Richard and his team for a wedding viewing. Everyone was so friendly, polite and welcoming they made us feel very relaxed. The venue is amazing and just what we were looking for. Have booked with them and can not wait for our wedding day!

Stayed for 2 nights and had dinner and breakfast. Trefor and Chris gave wonderful service. The accommodation was very pleasant and the location was delightful. We could see some donkeys grazing from our room window, to add to the experience. Fantastic stay.

The place itself is amazing, however the people who run it, are not accommodating at all or welcoming. Food is ok, but on my opinion could be better. I also found the prices a bit high.

Some staff were very rude. Bar staff friendly. Rooms are in dire need of refurbishment- bare live wires, broken floor tiles, broken toilet seats to name a few. Food was not cooked and served cold. Felt sorry for the bride & groom who had payed for this. O and forget eating if you have food allergies as these are not taken into consideration. Would I visit here again.no I would not.

If you read the multiple reviews on how they won't refund customers ever well they also refuse to pay staff wages they are legally entitled to if they have a grievance with them. This is not slander but factual if you research Edenlodge associates who own the business you will see several legal cases and tribunals they have lost? Richard and Sherry Martin are a disgrace to hospitality.

The room itself was fine. I received a call the next day saying you owe us extra for your guest. I stated I didn't share the room. I was then called a liar and told that they have cctv and I'm a liar. I told them to watch it again and I'll join them. I was then asked why I didn't attend breakfast and my reply was I wasn't hungry. His reply all a bit suspicious that you didn't come for breakfast cause you had a guest. Trying to charge me another 81 pound on top of the 144 I already paid. The man's attitude was disgusting and I will not be returning

We stayed here for a friend's wedding, it was a small intimate wedding in the garden followed by the reception in the marquee. Trefor, Fiona and the staff were super friendly and worked hard to ensure everyone had a lovely time. The room was nice but could benefit from a fan.

43 of us travelled from South Wales to Kent to have our stag, hen and wedding at the blazing donkey. The location was outstanding and beautiful scenery, the manager, Trefor sorted everything even down to the smallest detail to make sure our wedding was spectacular. Our guests were made to feel very welcome, the food was outstanding and the staff were very friendly and professional, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel for weddings or just a break.

Treff and his staff were top class. We had over 15 guests stay and we're all treated like royalty. The bar staff and waiting staff were a credit and very down to earth. This place is a gem and anyone staying or eating here will be very well looked after. The food is impeccable. Very high end gastro options with wonderful daily specials and locally sourced seafood. Thanks all!

The owner was dishonest about his prices, talked over me, hung up on me, told me to go deal with my kids, i asked him of this is how he treats his customers and he said your not a customer your enquiring so good bye. Horrid customer service. They shoudnt be able to be so horrid to the public when ever they feel like it! Its their busines and they dont want our custom apparently!

I didnt even get through the door. After seeing a review about them having rats maybe i should of listened to old customers. Dont belive their prices, for your own sake dont speak to the so called management. Im reporting them and i hope they care enough about their concequences that no more of the public get affected by this man. Later called the wife who told me i was lying. Aweful aweful business! Never go there!

Avoid this hotel at all costs. I was overcharged at the end of 2009 and have still not had my money paid back. I am now going down the legal route and will have my money back at some stage, but the owner will have to pay double what he owes me due to legal fees. Serve him right for being so dishonest. Apart from that the evening meal was unappetising and the breakfast was greasy. The room was OK.
