Loftsome Bridge Coaching House Nestling alongside the tranquil River Derwent lies the Loftsome Bridge Coaching House. Dating back to 1782, the Coaching Inn as it was known, offered food and shelter to travellers for more than a century. It then became a working farm and guest house. After several years of painstaking restoration, we would like to continue the tradition and offer food and accommodation to the twentieth century traveller.

We went to Loftsome Bridge today for Afternoon Tea, our first visit since the massive refurbishment. We were greeted by the amazing Sue, sorry Sue I don't know your official title, but you never fail to deliver. The food was fantastic, in presentation and taste! We had to take some home as there was so much. The refurbishment is really lovely, it just misses the comfortable lounge for before and after dining. We will certainly be back.

Fantastic Sunday lunch with my childre. Me and my son had the roast beef which was cooked to perfection, Yorkshire pudding, creamy mashed potatoes, roast potatoes, carrots, seasonal greens and cauliflower cheese (so delicious my son ate it all) and proper home made gravy from the meat juices all cooked to perfection. My daughter had the chicken which was moist and delicious.

For dessert me and my son had the passion fruit cheesecake which was unbelievably delicious very creamy and fruity and my daughter had the sticky toffee pudding with fresh custard (not the powdered type) which she said was absolutely yummy

We booked a four poster room early September for my birthday weekend treat at the end of October, arrived and handed a key for a room in the cottages. To our suprise no four poster. We trecked back to reception to be told the four poster had been booked since mid September, We showed them our booking confirmation dated 1st September to be told the guests were allready in there and could not be moved -we had been "upgraded" to a junior suite.

After much complaining the management reduced the room rate to that of a standard room and gave us a bottle of wine. The junior suite does sound quite promising but it comprised of a bath room, a bedroom with TV and a "lounge room" the lounge room was pretty useless, it had a bed settee, a desk (no chair) a small table and a standard lamp, so wasn't much use for anything.

If it had a big smart TV on the wall it would have made a nice space to kick back, but it didn't. Also if you are stopping the the Bed and Breakfast rate is for a continental breakfast, if you want a cooked breakfast it is 12pp. Ruined the weekend for us, won't be back.

Starter and sweet were nice. Main course was lacking. Meat was all fat, roast potatoes were over cooked, choice of veg wasn't good either. Coffee was instant and powdery.

Unfortunately it lacked atmosphere. We booked our annual Christmas lunch which was lovely but we were the only ones in the dining room which was a surprise at this time of year

New owners I think, but with the new menu, staff and updated surroundings, they have really hit the mark for quality and service. The staff were pleasant, accommodating and attentive and could advise on choices and selection which were suitable for members of our party. The menu was excellent, balanced and something for everyone and the food was well presented and looked and tasted great. Definitely recommended.
