Room noisy. Needs decorating. Shower useless. No chef. No nexplanation or response from owner. Staff nice and as helpful as can be expected on problem of lack of chef. Owner should value his guests and staff more. Car park like a dirt track. Saving grace was the view.

Sadly our experience of this hotel was not great at all, but what is mostly sad is the potential of this place is huge and it just isn't living up to that. I could forgive the rooms being super dated however they were absolutely not clean. There were sequins on the floor (I assume from a previous guest) and on the bed side tables which you would assume should not have been there if they had been wiped down and cleaned. Surfaces were dusty, there were a couple of black curly hairs in the shower and the bathroom is mouldy.

We stayed over the weekend and unfortunately the chef was sick one morning so we were unable to have a cooked breakfast (which is included in the room charge). We weren't too worried about this however it was disappointing that they didn't bother to take that cost off the bill at the end. The view is lovely and the staff are fantastic and super friendly however overall I would not return to this hotel, especially for the price we paid.

Stunning sea view from the front of the hotel, which is its saving grace. Lovely evening meals served by a relaxed staff. The bedroom was clean and comfortable but the furniture very dated. The downstairs would benefit from being decorated.

Really enjoyed our stay. Lovely hotel overlooking the bay so beautiful views. Nice seating area outside with a bar close by. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. You can walk to the nearest beach and harbour but it is fairly steep so you may need to use a car if you stay here.

Had most drlicious dinner at The View restaurant at The Porth Avallen. Small bite duck burgers which included salad garnish. Also had most delicious large glass of Merlot.

Ok for the price. Cornwall can be very expensive this time of year so, I thought the Porth Avallen was fairly priced. Nice lady at the reception. Food was good. I got an hello off the boss man. Bit basic in the room, but, like I said, for the price it's ok.

Lovely friendly and helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble. Superb food for breakfast and dinner. Brilliant location with outstanding views. Bedroom was very dated, no headboard and poor decor. Although the shower was new it trickled out. We did report the shower but nothing happened.

A traditional old up-market seaside hotel with pleasant public rooms, very limited wifi (reception or, if you are lucky, the dining room) and a quite GOOD restaurant. Rooms were well fitted out albeit with antiquated plumbing behind the refurbished bathrooms. Our bed was harder or firmer than we are used to and lacked a headboard, but the room we had was roomy and had good views out over the sea.

The room we ended up in was not as advertised on two online hotel booking websites, but the receptionist assured me, quite firmly, that "they" (the hotel) had never ever had the 32" TV or satellite service, and they gad never advertised the rooms as having baths (versus a recently installed mixer shower with pretty poor pressure). So, the hotel sites must have got the descriptions wrong.

The car park is large but mainly sloping, uneven gravel. The views from the terrace and bar, and some bedrooms, are glorious. A new dining platform has been built to the front looking out over the sea (across the access road) but was not in use. Overall we felt this hotel was priced for the online adverts, and the lack of wi-fi, basic TV channels and low water pressure suggested that there was a surface gloss on an old property that will not stand the test of time.

Bar service (delivered I believe by the owner) was hectic and slow and delivered in T shirt and shorts well into the evening; the guests made an effort to dress up, but the owner(s) didn't. On Sunday one staff member failed to turn up for the breakfast shift (putting pressure on the two others that did turn up). Staff were generally young, enthusiastic and courteous (minus the barman / owner and receptionist / owner?) who seemed to be working hard but tired. As was the hotel itself.

This hotel is in desperate need of an upgrade, an issue being ignored by the owner. The room (27) had a horrible damp smell and the furniture was old, worn and dirty. The bathroom was very dated and the shower useless. The owner eventually agreed to let us move room but not until we paid him more money. The staff we spoke to were embarrassed and said they regularly have to deal with similar guest complaints.

We planned to stay 5 days but left after 3. Plus side was the friendly staff and food was good. First visit to Cornwall was seriously spoilt by the owner of this hotel and we will probably never return. Certainly not to this hotel.

This hotel was really at a lovely location along with friendly & polite staff and owner. I enjoyed the food it was really homely and excellent. COVID-19 rules were perfectly followed. I would definitely come back here and recommend my friends. Wonderful, clean & safe place to stay with family.

Location superb. Hotel staff very friendly and willing. Experience spoilt by lack of attention to detail - for example first night in single room with very soft bed but lovely shower. Kindly moved next day to single room with better bed but pathetic shower. Upgrade required of plumbing and mattresses please. Rooms not soundproofed at all and wifi non existent.

Food good - introduction of fruit at breakfast would be a great idea. Otherwise thank you for a great stay. Incidentally a few guests I spoke with had issues as well - damp smell in bedroom and lack of hot water.
