The Gibside is a lovely hotel in Whickham Newcastle. They hold functions such as weddings, christening and funeral wakes. Sunday lunch is superb there too. Staff are lovely and very friendly and helpful. This place has a lovely ambience. Good beers and ciders on tap and all your regular needs catered for.

Incredible place, so welcoming and friendly, the staff are amazing. Particularly Rebecca and Phoebe who are just absolutely lovely with us, they are credit to the establishment. My wife and I come in every Saturday with our greyhound and they are so welcoming, friendly and polite. All the staff are brilliant and couldn't speak more highly of the place. Thanks lads and lasses

Have used this hotel on several occasions over the last few years without any problems. However on this occasion I had to request another room as the bedroom was cold due to a faulty radiator valve. I am not aware of a lift to the 2nd floor and reception is up a flight of steps. I would not recommend it to anyone with mobility problems.

It takes a great team with an even greater captain to run a successful hotel. The Gibside is a hidden gem with a high standard of excellence. Free carparking couldn't be easier and just a few steps to the hotel entrance. The lady on reception was charming and very helpful. My room had a huge bed with pillows to die for, so I had a great night's sleep.
The ensuite was modern and there was plenty of hot water. I'm not a huge breakfast eater, but really you could have anything you want. The dining room was pristine and, like everywhere else, spotless. I wish I could have stayed longer at the Gibside!

First the pros., the staff are very friendly and accommodating and the food in the Bistro was very good. The cons are that it was advertised as dog friendly hotel and we made a booking. We found out on arrival that there was a 20 surcharge for the dog. Had we known this at the time of booking we probably would have booked a Travelodge which would have been considerably cheaper than around 100 for an OK room in a hotel which needs refurbishing. I would eat there again but probably wouldn't stay.

I booked the junior suite on the 2nd of August for mine and my wife's anniversary. This was the room we stayed in on our wedding night. Only to be contacted by the hotel today to tell us that the person staying has extended their stay so will have to cancel our booking! Absolutely shocking! Will never stay again. No way to run a business.

I made a HUGE mistake booking here, I deiced to pay 50 more to stay here than another hotel, double bed increased to king size bed, 2 star to 3 star hotel, I though it would be worth the extra. king size bed was 2 single beds. dated key card locks that did not work, thankfully my phone could bypass all the locks and I set it to master key mode to unlock every room in that side of the hotel. free wifi was 0.35mb for the whole hotel, the bar had better toilet paper than the rooms, the shower temp had a mind of it's own, at the lowest setting i almost got burnt. free car park is for 8 cars if that, staff park in loading bays and hit each others cars while laughing curtains were hanging off the wall, mold on the bathroom ceiling, and the table lamp was arcing due to damaged insulation, carpet was in need of a hovering. dirt and hair clips on the bathroom floor. 175 for 2 nights - 12.50 extra for a cup of tea in the morning per person per day which I refused to pay.
I had family staying in the OLDER side of the hotel, rooms were larger, with KEYS that worked. on exit I was informed they will be changed to the key cards that don't work soon. after the 1st night i TRIED to find someplace else to say for the 2nd night but it would have been a further 160+ to get anyplace else that night
