A 16th century Devonshire pub with thirteen bedrooms, situated in the historic and picturesque Dartmoor village of Lydford. With low ceilings, wonky walls, open fires and character in abundance. We are situated in the Dartmoor National Park just off the A30 between the market towns of Okehampton and Tavistock (both 10 minutes away) in the quiet, charming village of Lydford, just 200m from the entrance to the majestic National Trust site of Lydford Gorge.
We are surrounded by invigorating walks, horse trails and national cycle routes, with cosy corners and roaring fires in the winter months and large beautiful gardens to enjoy in the summer, there's something for everyone year round.

Stopped here for coffee & cake before going on to explore the castle & the church. The refreshments were excellent, if a little expensive. Beautiful setting & the front of the property looks great with wisteria around the door. Lovely large beer garden out the back with plenty of tables & chairs, as well as a semi-permanent gazebo, which is presumably the stage for the entertainment.

Wonderful atmosphere and fantastic food. The pub is full of character with low beams and stone flagged floors. Comfortable clean rooms, and a beautiful garden to the rear. The owners and staff are friendly and exteamly flexible; we had booked a table for 13 and due to unforeseen circumstances had to ask if this could be delayed for an hour on a busy bank holiday evening. The owner was more than happy to oblige and we were treated to an excellent meal with friendly and attentive service. Thank you Castle Inn!

Wonderful old Inn, with excellent staff. They were very accommodating when part of our 14-strong party were late and we wanted to eat an hour later than we planned, with only about two hours' notice. The food was very good too. The rooms are lovely, with character but also modern amenities. We'd certainly stay again!

Good selection for gluten free however had 1 steak meal come out very chewy and was essentially just fat. Was sent back and had the Cheek instead which was a lot better. However because of this the person had to wait another 10mins and the table held their meals till the new one arrived as they would have been eating alone otherwise, equally in most people's going cold. The fish and chips was a bit small for price (fish wise) and wasn't very crispy batter considering the price. Would go back again but hope have better luck.

A lovely pub and garden and the staff do their best. Had a roast that was close to 20. It looked great when it came out but tasted awful; tough meat badly cooked veg Yorkshire pudding tasted like bad toast. Get a consultant chef in for a couple of days and sort out the food and this will be a 5 star pub all the way.

We had a fantastic night away at The Castle Inn celebrating my husbands birthday. The room was beautifully decorated with a huge super comfy bed. Welcome tray with delicious locally made biscuits, tea and coffee, with fresh milk. We ate dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed both. What really made it for us was how friendly and welcoming the staff and locals were. We'll definitely be back in the summer.

I only had one night here but I loved it. The rooms, pub and dining area are full of character. The bathroom was really good with really nice toiletries. We were given fresh milk for our room and delivered more in the morning. The food and drink was excellent with good real ale on tap. Best of all, the hotel kindly posted a car key we had left in the room and we received it the day after we got home.
