We stay at Fern Howe every time we come to the Lake District. It has become our home from home and that is the atmosphere that Emma and Mark have managed to achieve. The rooms are very clean, but above all comfortable. Big plus is that there are mini fridges in the rooms so you could make packed lunches to go on hikes or chill a beer for post hike.
The highlights (apart from Emma and Mark) are the breakfast (you won't go hungry here!), the cake that Emma puts out each afternoon, the stunning views of the Skiddaw and surrounding mountains and finally the map wall of the Lake District (where I would frequently find my wife standing in front of it planning our routes!). It is the perfect base for anyone wanting to get an amazing Lake District experience.

A wonderful place to stay. Situated in the village of Braithwaite, 2.4 miles from Keswick centre, Fern Howe looks out over the valley to Skiddaw. Check in was flawless due to the information provided in advance by Emma and Mark. My room, Ennerdale, was a single that had wonderful views out to Skiddaw. The room was spotlessly clean, the bed was very comfortable and there was ample storage space for one person.
The room also had a small desk with a comfortable chair and a large flat screen T.V. What I enjoyed most about the room was the bathroom. It was a separate room on the left as you walk in. It had a modern power shower, sink, toilet and a huge bath, positioned directly under a large veluxe window, perfect for soaking in following a full day of walking.
The breakfast room was beautiful and had recently been redecorated. A full selection of cereals, fruits, yoghurts and fruit juice were available every morning. I really liked the fact that in order to reduce waist you choose what items you want for your cooked breakfast the evening before, I highly recommend the bacon. The small details such as the animal themed table mats and coasters are what makes this guest house stand out from the crowd. Emma and Mark have clearly worked hard to not only make their guests feel comfortable but to do so with a sustainable ethos.
From the ability to recycle your waste in your room to smart radiators managing the temperature of the room, it's all admirable. There are lots of other positive things that I could say about my time at Fern Howe but I would highly recommend you book and find them out for yourself.

The rooms are spotlessly clean and cosy. . Comfortable bed. Modern bathroom with hot powerful shower. Lovely breakfast every morning either, cooked,, cereals, toast or continental. Covid care in place. Central for many attractions and Emma has superb knowledge and recommendations. Thanks to her and her husband Mark for a very welcome stay.

Emma and Mark went out of their way to make us feel welcome. They catered for our 'awkward' dietary requirements (one vegan and one gluten free veggie) with no fuss, and they really had thought of everything we could possibly have wanted. The room we had was tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean and had amazing views, with lovely touches such as gluten free/vegan flapjack on arrival. We really could not have asked for more. Thank you

Fantastic guest house, just can't fault it. The facilities are lovely and super clean, the owners are so friendly and helpful, we really enjoyed our daily chats with Emma. Our room was gorgeous and the shower amazing. Couldn't want for anything else, I really think they've thought of everything to make you have the best possible stay. Cake in the room on arrival is a lovely welcome gesture and a decent size fridge in all rooms a real bonus.
Breakfast was always good, less choice than other places possibly but understandable from the very small but hardworking team. We stayed for 10 nights and managed to get good variation from the items on offer. Would definitely recommend and look forward to staying again. Best to book direct as they offer discounts on multiple night stays. Many thanks to Emma and Mark.

I stayed here for 3 nights to do some hiking in the area and conquer helvellyn. Upon arrival the self check in was simple and the cake in my room was delicious! The guest house is as covid safe as it can be and I felt completely comfortable being there. The room was spotlessly clean and had everything I needed. Breakfast was very tasty and was delivered to my room at a specified time.
After climbing helvellyn and experiencing all kinds of weather up there, I enjoyed a bath in the huge impressive tub. Bubble bath was provided and smelt lovely! Just what I needed. The location of the guest house was perfect and the fell views from my window were stunning! Parking is a little tight but I have no complaints about this place whatsoever and hope to return one day!

We enjoyed our stay at Fern Howe Guest House very much. It is a small and quiet place near a bus stop. The room was super clean and comfortable. The breakfast included was healthy and one could select from a great range of options. There was a small area to sit outside as well, which was nice. The new covid measures were well thought through and we felt safe. The hosts were helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend this place.

We had the loveliest stay at Fern Howe Guest House before a very soggy day mountain biking at Whinlatter Forest, just up the hill! The guest house is the perfect location for Whinlatter but is also really close to beautiful Keswick. We were made to feel welcome from the very second that we arrived - Emma and her adorable little boy showed us around and gave us all of the information we needed for our stay.
We made use of the very secure and easily accessible bike storage which was absolutely perfect for what we required. The breakfast was absolutely beautiful and served in a lovely, relaxed atmosphere at a time that suited us. Overall we could not fault our night at Fern Howe and we can't wait to stay again soon - we wish we had stayed with you another 2 nights instead of going up to Scotland! Thank you for making my first holiday to the Lakes so enjoyable.

Guests will receive a friendly welcome from Emma and we were also greeted by her very helpful son Jake. Our room was very comfortable, clean, bright and airy and had everything we needed. The location is approx 5-10 min drive to the town and Derwent Water and there is a very nice country pub a couple of minutes walk away. We would definitely stay again.
