Awesome. Incredible food with novel ideas (pickled blackberry?!) in a very informal and relaxed setting (I was wearing a jacket and tie, with other diners in polo shirts and shorts and none of us looked out of place!). Great value too - especially the tasting menus. We had 5 courses and came away filled but not stuffed, and each one had something different to the others so held our interest the whole way through. The wine menu was well stocked but not overly so, and seems reasonably priced. Would heartily recommend.

Food was good but the problem with this place is its like eating in a waiting room, no atmosphere, decor tables etc very bland. Service was just about OK waiting times were to long for us. The prices are very high and I would have felt more comfortable paying the bill if everything was as good as the food.

Booked this Pub/ Restaurant for a special occasion and after reading various reviews was looking forward to it immensely we booked the little caravan site around the corner from the pub for two nights and travelled 2hrs to there. What a dissapointment the Restaurant turned out to be! The greeting was negative to start with, the atmosphere was none existent it felt like somebody's front room, the staff were at best capable of bringing food to the table! All in all it was a bad experience never to return again somebody need to get a grip and make it a far more pleasant experience.

Friends had recommended this restaurant to us and we weren't disappointed. The food was wonderful and much better than you might expect in an "Inn". The staff were very pleasant and seemed very knowledgeable about the food being served and if they didn't know the answer they would go & find out for you. Thank you for the recommendation for the Sticky Toffee Pudding, best ever, only problem was my husband didn't just try it he ate about half of it. Will be back soon.

Good food but the ambience was not up to the same quality. The welcome was non existent and the service poor. Tired decor and surroundings like a cross between a trendy pub and my granny's front room. We were looking forward to a good dining experience but sadly we left feeling as though no one would care that we were very disappointed.

Well located restaurant/hotel in the Peak district. 4 bespoke rooms so book in advance to avoid disappointment. Courteous and knowledgeable staff and a rumoured Michelin acknowledged chef. Easily the finest dining I have ever encountered. The only problem being I cannot rate the chef seven stars instead of 5. Fabulous.

Terrible experience. Got confirmation from the restaurant 2 weeks advance that they can do a proper vegan set menu. It ended up being an afterthought especially when you compare to the vegetarian set menu. For example they could have made the gnocchi and risotto vegan but made no effort whatsoever to do so. Instead I just got a few pieces of veg. For the 2 dessert courses I just got back to back sorbet. Was left hungry after the meal.

When informing the waiter, he agreed with my comments but made no effort to resolve the issue. Safe to say I won't be back. Never had this kind of issue with any other fine dining establishment. Edit: Since posting my honest review of my experience, the restaurant tried to bribe me into taking down my review (see pic). I wonder how many people they've tried this with.

This is a hidden gem, offering creative, delicious cooking with great ingredients. It is in a local inn which is on the edge of the village so could easily be overlooked. The three course fixed price summer menu had a range of lovely dishes and was supplemented by several 'specials' so there was plenty of choice. Service was friendly and efficient. Will definitely go back

This restaurant never disappoints. The menu is small but perfectly formed for all tastes and preferences and the team always create a comfortable and friendly ambience which allows one to enjoy the food which remains the star of the show.

We had an amazing dinner here whilst on holidays in the area! Great service and the food was fantastic! We had the trout for mains: it was different but in a great way: very tasty and very well cooked! I would defo recommend having dinner here!

Impulse decision by us to try this recently renovated restaurant/pub/hotel prompted by lots of local advertising and with a birthday to celebrate. In the end we were glad we did - but it didn't start too well! Thinking Saturday night would be busy we took the precaution of booking so, were surprised on arrival, to find only one other table with 4 guests was occupied. Didn't mind that because it usually means you will get red hot service, not so tonight!

After being seated by a very charming young man we were abandoned for ten minutes with no menus to ponder and no drinks to sup. Thinking it might be one of those places where you order drinks and food at the bar I went off to investigate to find the waiter behind the bar who was just coming to serve you sir. Ordered the drinks and he did thankfully, turn up quite quickly and then a while later appeared with the menus.

With a little trepidation we ordered but can only comment that the meal was an excellent surprise. The home made soups were especially nice and lovely steaks were well presented and worthy of the price. Served with chunky style chips that satisfied the hunger pains and followed by excellent sweets of good portions. You really only need one cheese and biscuits between two although all of ours disappeared!

The local ice cream wasn't bad either although have had tastier. So all in all a very pleasant meal of good standard and worth remembering for a special treat. On the plus side the food is excellent but they do fall down on the service side and would hate to be there when they were busy! It seemed the staff were rushing around all evening but not sure why as they only visited tables when they had to and never more than a quarter of the tables occupied all evening. Shame because all they need is a genial 'mine host'to welcome and take care of guests and they could create a really outstanding restaurant experience.

We will definitely try it again just in case it was due to staff shortage or something but will go prepared for a wait. Service Quality 3/5 Food Quality 5/5 Drink Quality 3/5 Food Cost 4/5 Drink Cost 4/5 Overall Experience Rating 4/5
