We also had a 4 day SAGA holiday at this hotel in October. The sea view room was delightful, the staff were friendly, the breakfasts were very nice and well-cooked and the evening meals were awful. We had the same menu each evening, with only a minor alteration so that it could be called "different." There were no specials to increase the choice. Vegetables were charged extra. Cornish cream or cornish icecream were never on the menu.
My husband and I found it difficult to make three choices that were really wanted on our first evening. Being given the same menu the next evening was a disappointment. Items such as salt cod and burnt mackerel re-appeared each evening. A roast dinner was never an option. We made a complaint but no one came to discuss our complaint. We opted out on our third evening and went to the Tapas Bar in Falmouth for our evening meal.
It was delicious. On the fourth evening the choice was as limited as before. The SAGA representative arranged for me to have a special meal and I requested the 'lamb trio' with gravy, mashed potato and green vegetables. One of small lamb segments was burnt. The gravy was thick, congealed and tasted like bisto, the vegetables were boiled potatoes, cauliflower and carrots, some of which were singed.
During this 4 day holiday, with a group of elderly SAGA holiday resident in the hotel, the management decided the varnish the banisters of the main stairway. I placed my hand on the top floor roundel before noticing the warning, and smeared varnish all over my palm. I was not the only person to do this On arriving home from this rather dreadful holiday we wrote a letter to the management of the Royal Duchy.
The letter we received told us that the dining experience in their hotel was a five star one, intimated that it was all our fault, did not mention the varnish incident and was 100% unsatisfactory.

Great staff and location, although I think that some of the rooms are starting to feel a little tired. The porter was fantastic and an asset to the hotel! I think that the hotel should look at room 110 as its lacking in privacy from the neighbouring building. I would go again and it was only a few niggles that stop it from getting 5 starts

Nice hotel and if you enjoy a touch of opulence then book but I didn't feel comfortable here at all. (Well the staff did just not the setting). The staff were attentive and obliging, the food was good but I will be honest (aside from not getting offered Crab Ravioli) I'd rather go a Beef Eater as steak I'd better. Breakfast was decent and I will say the mushroom was probably the best I've ever had but the sausage was not hot. The position of the hotel is amazing and the moonlit sea was stunning. I wouldn't stay again but that's just because it's not me nothing more.

Absolutely wonderful experience. I brought my mum and sister here for afternoon tea as they are on holiday visiting me. This place didn't disappoint. The hotel itself is gorgeous, but when you walk out onto the patio area you have the most stunning views! We dined outside to make the most of them and felt like we were abroad. Our waitresses were wonderful and helpful.
Nothing too much trouble. The afternoon tea was simply sublime. A fantastic selection of cakes, scones and finger sandwiches. You definitely won't be hungry after visiting here! The quality throughout was perfect and made our afternoon such a wonderful delight. I can honestly say you won't be regret coming here for afternoon tea. I'm now eying up coming for dinner with my husband one evening!

A warm welcome and friendly staff throughout, made our stay here excellent. Nothing was too much trouble at any point. Special mention for James who having worked at the hotel for 36 years approached his job with all the vigour & enthusiasm of someone much younger. This hotel was in very good condition throughout, we booked late and the biggest room was the Leeward suite which we were made aware was on the ground floor with no view when booking, and yet it was really good for size and all well appointed. Restaurant staff again very helpful and all the food served was great including fab breakfasts. Much thanks from us and we would highly recommend.
